"Borg Warner tranny in the Axiom is an excellent transmission" by cptsesso

I too have heard the same thing but what they have told me is to not go by the Isuzu maintenance schedule. Change out the fluid every 30k and at 60k intervals do the filter. They said it should virtually last the life of the truck if you do this. I now have over 70k and never any issues, knock on wood.

I have over 89K miles on my Axiom, and I'm having some tranny issues. I wouldn't be so disappointed by this if this were the only time I had this issue; but 6 months after I bought the truck, I had the same problem. Thankfully, there was the warranty to protect me. Now, I have to pull the trigger and spend some mad skrilla to get my chariot up and running properly. I had hoped to drive it a while longer before things started flying off of it. Oh well, guess I'll have to be happy with almost 90K miles. That's not too bad.

Borg Warner Tranny excellent?

Hmm. Ok.

1st Transmission in 02 Axiom was replaced at 200 miles.(long story but I found out that a dealer that had lost their medallion used mine as a parts car then sold it to another dealer who I bought it from).

2nd transmission was replaced at 86000 miles.

Currently at 118k and this is the _last_ transmission. When this one goes, the vehicle is getting towed away for $100 and hopefully crushed into a little square. It's in good shape, but enough is enough.

I do intend to get the tranny fluid changed soon though. Perhaps it will make it to 150k.

Oh and I put 255/55 18s on mine. I replaced the garbage integrity tires at 13k miles and the truck shook ever since. I think the vendor that put the new tires on bent a wheel. At 106k, I put these continentals on. Very happy with them.

Miracle of miracles...it only cost me 1/10 of what I thought it would. Turns out the transmission is still under warranty, thanks to being under 100K miles. Still a big chunk o' dough though. But runs just like new (almost). Now I just need to swap out the bald tires for some new ones.

Replying on the ticking noise, I have noticed that my engine is making a loud ticking noise. My milage is 98,000. I have no known leaks, and nothing leaking on the ground...any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Axiom V6 still runs quiet (108,000 miles) but I had a problem with my Trooper making a ticking noise. It seemed to be a sticky lifter or something in the valve train at one valve. I took off the tube into the throttle body (past the Mass Air Sensor) and sprayed Marvel Mystery Oil into the throttle body. Keep the rpms up and keep spraying until the exhaust smokes. This cured my problem. I think the added lube in the top end of the engine frees the valve problems up. After this treatment I'd go for a drive to clear out the residual oil form the cylinders. Try it and let us know.

Regards
Bert

I think I have the problem resolved. I put in a can of restore and it seems to be doing better. Also, I have noticed that the closed it gets to oil change, the louder the tick....thanks for your tip.
