#306 of 384 97 Chevy Blazer Issues
Jan 02, 2007 (6:53 pm)
I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer. Got it for a steal! Truck has 138,000 miles on it and was a highway driven vehicle I bought from a friend who I trust when he tells me he had no issues with it. soon after I purchased it the fuel level gauge stop working. I replaced the level sensor with a genuine GM part and the gauge works but bounces when I turn on the turn signals? First problem
We towed my boat to and back from Canada with no issues other than the bouncing fuel level gauge and since then have driven the vehicle for approximately 5K miles. My wife broke the hazard switch and the heater core started leaking a little, no real problem that I can not deal with. Now the vehicle intermittantly stalls while driving just like someone turned it off however the electrical power remains? Most of the time after it stalls it starts right back but sometimes lately it is difficult to start. I really do not even know where to start? The fuel pump sounds normally at ignition start. I am confused please help?

Again, see all the posts on the known 97 only problem ignition switch (the connector and wiring acually) in the column - not key/tumbler - so do that first. May solve all problems.

#310 of 384 95 GMC Jimmy Auto Transmission Problems
Jul 02, 2007 (9:11 am)
I have a Jimmy W/140K miles and it started acting like it was slipping/jerking ONLY when I was in reverse and heavy on the throttle. I changed the filter and made things worse. Now it only seems to have 2nd gear (40mph)and still jerks when I am in reverse. Prior to changing the filter I didn't have any issues with forward gears. I had a hard time squeezing the pan in and out of the exhaust. Could I have damaged or unhooked something by rubbing the pan across it? If I can regain my forward gears I could get by for awhile. Any ideas on what could cause these problems? Any help?

You probably hit the wiing running thru beneath the valve body and may have nicked it or disconnected a solenoid.

Is there a way of checking this through the computer codes? Does Autozone or Advanced Auto have a diagnostic machine for transmissions? How many solenoids are there and what do they look like? I just need to regain all of my forward gears and hope reverse lasts for awhile.

Auto stores don't scan transmissions. Each gear shift has a solenoid. Most trans shops will hook up their scanner and give an estimate for free or low cost to get the business.

There is a major problem in the electronic controlled transmissions in the blazer. A simple way to get results is to pull the positive battery cable for 5 mins and then reattach it. That seems to reset the computer and fix the problem, but usually for only about 6 months.

My grandfather had the same problem with his. Try cutting and old milk carton and puttting it over the distributor to keep moisture out. That seemed to work for him.
