CR should have added a little blurb about how to increase mileage, that would have done the public a great service. Not sure why they did not bother. I think mmreid should send CR an e-mail to at least ask them to add that blurb or at least discuss it. The part of the CR report I find strange, as another post had mentioned earlier, is this foolish focus on ROI. No one ever analyzes the ROI factors in a $40,000 HUMMER, BMW or $60,000 Mercedes, Lexus or Toyota LandCruiser. Everyone just assumes it is "normal" to pay a premium for a "luxury" car. When it comes to paying a premium for a cleaner car, with a new technology that burns less gas with similar or better performance, suddenly the focus is on whether one can recoup the premium. Suddenly, there is a ton of argument as to why such new technology is unnecessary. I completely fail to see this logic. I like to ask CR or the anti-gas-electric hybrid crowd what is the ROI on that $40K HUMMER sitting in a suburban driveway that sees at most 1 off-road trip per year if at all? What of that giant Toyota 4x4 Landcruiser or Lexus GX470 sitting on more driveways doing nothing but shuttle children around town? What is their ROI computation? Where is the gas comsumption, emission and price premium analysis? Most 2007 models, including many of Toyota's models (RAV4, CAMRY, Lexus), now offer ICE engines at 270-hp and up! Where is the "green" in any of these manufacturers? Yet no one says anything. Strange...... |

Replying to: bob2006 (Mar 13, 2006 5:51 pm) Since I work at home I knew that I'd never hit the mileage on the extended warranty so I've quite forgotten it. I tend to only put 6 or 7,000 miles per year on a vehicle. I'll have to go out in daylight tomorrow and find the papers in the glove compartment to figure out the warranty mileage. I do remember the 7 years part. Hubby thinks it was 70,000 or 80,000 miles for extended warranty but I'll go see if I can find it in the light of day. Still haven't heard a peep from Consumer Reports. mmreid |

I just took delivery of my hh and am totaly amazed at the vehicle. The 1st tank I am getting 29.1 mpg average combined city and highway. The power is amazing along with the high mpg. I bought it from Gault Toyota in Endicott, very easy transaction, great people to buy from. I had looked all over Colorado but found with nav, they were available only upon order for a 9 month wait. One dealer in Boulder had 1 and wanted to charge me $7000 over msrp. What a joke. The colorado tax credit of $3900 makes them impossible to find in that state. I located the car through autotrader.com. and did a trade during a planned trip east. I also got xm installed by internaction, great install, the unit is totally hidden, and controlled by the nav screen. The sound is worth the cost. In summary, the best vehicle I have ever owned.

You purchased an XM Direct wire correct? And did you also purchase the Alpine adapter for radio connect? Well, finally. I just happened to check my local dealer last Thursday, at which I was on a waiting list, to see if they were showing any HyHi's on there on-line inventory. Loe and behold, they has a bluestone/ash 2WD actually in stock, but it was a LTD w/NAV (I was waiting on a non-LTD with option pkg. 1). Well, I guess waiting since Jan 05 got the best of me, and now I'm driving what is now MY new Highlander Hybrid. It is a good chunk of change more than I wanted to spend, but in the end, I'm just a gadget geek anyway, so I took the plunge.  I've only driven it about 150 miles, but so far I'm averaging about 28 MPG (mixed driving, expected much less, given the break-in period I've read about here). I've been trying all the hyper-mileage tricks I've read too. Seems like the toughest part to that is dealing with hills (the hills here in San Antonio are pretty small, but the 2WD version doesn't seem to have enough ummph to get up a very minor grade on just electric without slowing considerably). I seem to recall reading here in the past about an undocumented procedure to turn off the annoying warning screen that pops up every time you turn on the NAV system. I searched this forum for it, but I could only find the procedure to enable the POI buttons when moving. Could anyone post the link to that info? Maybe I just need to use a better keyword in my search. I couldn't be happier with the vehicle.  Lot's of power if I want, absolutely quiet interior with the highest quality assembly/fit, great ride (much smoother than my RAV4, but not as plush as my wife's Accord). Super comfy seats. The stereo system sounds pretty good, but it still needs some tweaking for my preferences (haven't gotten around to that yet). Having never seen the bluestone color in person until now, I am extremely happy with my color choice. Oh, yeah, my vehicle has the Goodyear Integrity's on it. Still need to increase the air pressure tho' (will pump up to 37 psi cold). Even after building up very high expectations for this vehicle after reading this forum for so long, I absolutely love this vehicle. Consider me a VERY happy buyer.

Howdy, all! I just picked up my silver 2WD HH Ltd with the navigation system on Thursday evening. It was actually on the lot. So far, I've put about 400 miles on it (mostly highway, but also some dirt roads), and I've been very happy with it. Even in that short time, I'm averaging around 27-28 mpg. I learning to drive hybrid style, and I'm playing around with PnG driving. Unfortunately, I don't travel many open roads, so I don't get to do a lot of PnG. However, it is a nice feeling when the ICE cuts off during deceleration or at a stop light and I can think, "I'm pretty much getting this for free." I do want to thank everyone for all the information you have posted on this forum. Many things here influenced my decision to go with an HH. Really, though, the car was the greatest influence. DF |
