04 diesel won't start when warm? by ramit3

Here's a good one for you techs.. 04 2500 5.9l 300,000 kms. Problems with very noisy engine. Dealer replaced #1 injector, still noisy, brought it back. I was with tech while hooked up to computer. When he shut down # 6 injector sounded ok. So I said pull all inj. out and test. They all failed. They replaced with remans. All was ok for 5,000 kms. Started to be hard to start when at op. temp. I replaced fuel filter. Did not help. Continually got worse. to the point where it would not start. Had to leave for 1+ hours before it would start. Brought it to another repair shop which specializes in small diesels. Lift pump tested ok injector pump tested ok. no codes. They felt it may be the reman injectors because the electrical parts in each inj.can't be rebuilt. Stated that 20% of fuel is injected into cylinder prior to normal time before TDC. When inj. are hot this may not happen. Brought it back to Dealer for more testing. I relayed this info to them. They are still testing and talking to the reman company. They say it is not the inj.s. They really don't know what the problem is. Also, when in no start condition engine sounds quiet as if no fuel. Give a little sniff of starter fluid and jumps to life. When running sounds good, power is good fuel economy is normal... Any ideas????

If the outside temp is 40 degrees or below, the intake heaters will cycle to maintain intake temp. until warm up...cold weather starting..

Any p-codes?
Could be throttle pos. sensor...
BUT...my p-code was throttle posision sensor A ckt low imput...
Dodge said throttle pos.sensor bad...spent $500+ on new one... was not the problem... did all the electrical diagnostics...now stuck with it...
Have to replace ECM $1200 dollars...To get it from a cummins dealer you need your engine number and the ECM serial number...
Anybody need a new TPS???

Retail on the TPS is almost $600...NAPA $419....The ECM controls engine functions...only one 5vdc wire goes to the PCM...

What about kerosene as cleaner and lubricant in the fuel?
How much can you put in?
Will it work as and anti algae?

I own a 2003 dodge ram diesel. It has about 106,000 miles on it. One morning it took longer to start than usual. This progressively got worse as days wen't on, until one morning it just would not start. I changed the fuel filter but that did not help. I then decided to plug the block heater in at night and it started everytime. All the fuses are good. I even replaced the fuel heater relay located on the filter housing. Now that it's colder at night even the block heater plugged in won't help it start. Can anyone help?
