2008 Ram 6.7L Cummins by fordfan08

I know the the 6.7L has been out for about a year now and I was wondering, does anyone know if the serious "bugs" have been worked out of the engine, the "BlueTec" emissions system, and the 68RFE automatic transmission yet?

Your exhaust brake does not affect mileage. I have owned two 6.7liter cummins and have had no problem with them. You just simply have to drive them. They are not meant for a run around town type of rig, they are best suited for pulling and long drives. Seriously, I have not had one problem. However, when I took my wife's car on a recent trip and let her drive my pickup around town to pick up kids from school etc. the truck did not do so hot. Lights went off, truck would not shut off until it idled for quite awhile etc...

When I am on a trip I always keep my exhaust brake on. nice to let off the gas if you see a highway patrol and the truck just slows down without hitting the brakes.

hope, this helps. They are awesome trucks, but are truly made to work!

Fordfan08,

I have two of these new blue tec's and I have not had any trouble with them. Both are manual's. However, they are both on the highway a lot and both pull trailers. A majority of the problems people are facing is that they are not getting them hot enough to keep all the equipment cleaned out. They will plug up if you idle them a lot or just run them around town. These trucks need to work! I have edge chips and large air box's on both of them. I can get around 18mpg empty and about 12-14 pulling 15,000lbs.

Not likely. Computers have the VIN coded in them these days. Plus, the 03 and 05 engines were different. The sentry key system is likely controlled by the body computer, not the engine or powertrain computers.

Today, I had to stop short in traffic in my 02 2500 cummins powered ram, and stalled out. When I reset the ignition to restart, I got no warning bells until I had cranked for several seconds, Now, I get the warning bells, but still wont restart, and the bells chime in again after cranking for about 5-10 seconds. Engine light is on. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

1997 lift pump? by hopalong60

I have an early '97 Dodge 2500 Cummins that recently decided not to start. Actually it will start and rev up but will not run. It dies quickly like it's not getting fuel, but then it will have enough fuel to start and rev up again before dying. Is the lift pump the most likely culprit here or could it be something else?
