Although in every article I've read, the reason for the 3rd row being a bit more cramped than it's competitors with 3rd rows is that the 2nd row is significantly larger than any of it's competitiors 2nd rows. I will tell you this past weekend, 4 of us who are not exactly small spent over 1200 miles in my Armada doing a drive to raise money for charity with a group of Subarus. We were the support vehicle carrying the supplies, spare parts, beer, food, prizes to give out. We were quite comfortable. When it came time to go to dinner from the hotel at night, we piled in 7 rather portly adults for the 5 mile trip to dinner with ease. I wouldn't have wanted to do more than 20 miles with that many people but it did serve it's purpose. Problem with a LWB truck is that your towing will generally go down due to the extra weight on the chassis, it's a hard call. I believe they'll bump the HP and towing though to compete with the upcoming 10k+ towing of the new Toyota Sequoia based on the towing capacity of the new Tundra. I sat in the new Tundra and while the interior is a hair better than the Armada in terms of fit and finish (and the newer Armadas are probably better than my 04) it really wasn't anything to write home about and was significantly narrower than the Armada. I'd actually prefer a diesel over more HP if they had to make a choice. Another option could be a NISMO aftermarket Supercharger that can be installed and is covered under the warranty, similar to the TRD Superchargers offered by Toyota, that would give folks the option of adding more power without increasing the cost of the vehicle to those folks who don't need/want the power. -mike |

My '03 Expedition had better overall interior packaging. Even the third row seat was decent in that truck. On the hole, though, the Nissan kicks the Expedition's ass! That's why we bought it. You guys are nuts about the whole horsepower thing. This truck has more than a beast like this probably ought to (not complaining, mind you). Anything this big that can hit 60mph under 7 seconds is plenty fast and I have not noticed any shortage of power even when it is loaded down and towing my boat. What the Armada lacks in interior space it makes up for in overall packaging. It has great ground clearance. The longish wheel base does make it a bit less manueverable, but the re-engineered ride of the '08 is really good. Only a slight revision in rebound dampening (read: stiffer) is needed to keep things in better check over big, harsh bumps. Of course, we'd all like better gas mileage, but it is what it is with something this big and heavy. A diesel option could be good, or a hybrid. Sadly, after '10 it won't likely matter. It looks like this truck will be going the way of the dinosaurs. Oh, well! |
