Guys.... i see we have a bunch of lead footers out there. Start coasting the second you see the light turn yellow, avoid quick off the lines..and be willing to use that cruise as much as possible. Went on a trip, Unloaded, no passengers just me. 65mph all the way. Results, 33.6 mpg 2006 Sienna LE Package #4 has traction & stability control. With those 2 items you dont need an AWD. which btw will use more gas period. My other last small car was a 2004 Civic hybrid, learning how to squueze all the mpg i could is very useful in driving my other cars..Go to Toyota Camry section and read my driving log there.. My last trip from So.Cal to Phoenix 65 mph was 40.058 mpg..In my 2003 CAMRY Le 4cyl. Good Luck and drive easier
p.s. When my wife drives the Sienna, which is always....even pulling over on the street to talk to girlfriends with the motor running..when i check her mpg its between 20 & 21 always...and she doesnt pay attention to any of that.So i know you can do better... Good Luck

I'm with you, Caaz. My record is 34mpg, too. I do the same thing - coast to lights and stop signs. Any use of the brakes is energy you wasted, think about it! Actually is wastes gas and the brake pads.
It's gotten very cold so my mileage has taken a hit, but I can still squeeze out 26-28mpg on an average tank.
Even in pure city driving I can eek out 21mpg.

Hi I have the same problem, I have just bought an 08 awd XLE limited and the best I'm getting is 14 mpg's. I coast going downhill and don't break often, I have another car which I get 23 mpg but it's listed as 18-24, I drive it the same way as I drive the sienna. The sienna is just two weeks old, is the mileage going to get any better? did you get yours fixed? Thanks!

Feb 04, 2008 (1:05 pm)
I just picked up my new 2008 AWD Sienna LE last week. I've put a little more than 100 miles on the car and the gas gauge is 1/2 empty. The on board computer is telling me I'm getting 14 mpg like few other AWD Sienna owners have posted.
This is alarming to me because I brought this car to replace my old '97 Chrysler Town & Country LXI AWD minivan. AWD to AWD, I normally get about 18-19 mpg with my old Chrysler; same style of driving, same weather, same gas.
What's up with the Toyota AWD?!
Can other AWD Sienna drivers share their experience?
So far I've only seen people post AWD gas milages in the 14 mpg range. I'm hoping this some how improves and quickly...

Hi, I just talked to the service guy in Toyota North, NY where I bought the car and told me it is not unusual to get this mileage for the AWD and for me to wait til the engine breaks in (around 1200 miles he said)
NOT unusual?! 14 miles per gallon?! my big SUV makes 15 miles per gallon that's why I traded it in, and they shouldn't advertise 21 MPG's if it's not true. Anyways I'm contacting toyota warranty services and I'm posting a complaint about the vehicle I got, I'll post what they say.....

My dealer is telling me to wait till after the first old change in 5,000 miles. I never had a car that requires that kind of break-in.
Also, what I've notice is this car doesn't know how to coast. I normally coast to stop signs and lights, but as soon as I let go of the gas, this thing slows down like a rock.
I have a small hill in my neighborhood, just about 3 - 4 blocks long. Normally, I would take my foot off the gas before I start down the hill when I'm going ~25 and by the time I get to the bottom I would be doing 40 (without gasing at all). With the AWD Sienna, I find I need to gas pretty much the whole way and at the bottom, I'm at 25.
Has anyone notice the same?

I wish I could get even 18mpg from my new 2008 sienna AWD LE.
I'm just seeing 14 mpg with 80% highway driving. My full size chevy conversion van gives me 16-17 mpg even though it has a monster 5.7 liter V8. How could this little minivan do worst than that is beyond me?!

Is yours a AWD sienna? If so, what year is yours?
I have a new 2008 AWD and I'm only seeing 13-14mpg and this is worrying me...

Both axles are engaged so you'll have double the drag, though I'm surprised that the difference is that big. My FWD coasts quite a while before it stops, that's actually how I stretch my gas mileage.

I'm surprise myself as well.
My other minivan is the AWD Chrysler Town & Country '97 and it doesn't behave this way. It knows how to coast and even though it's old and uses older technology; I average 18-19mpg on it even now.
I don't know if this is a transmission problem with it not clutching in time or what; but given my other AWD Chrysler van, I don't believe the AWD in the Sienna is suppose to kill the gas milage like it does.
Does anyone out there have a AWD Sienna with better than 14 mpg ?!
Please speak up and give us some hope here...
