Andres; vw is to audi as honda is to acura as nissan is to infinity etc its all the same man. Never has there been such a huge, gargantuan ( i've always liked that word), astronimacal difference between 2 brands of a car make as far as reliabilty goes. The a3 and the gti share pretty much the same components; its a sheetmetal and interior differance. Same VW 2.0t engine. Same VW dsg transmission. Same a lot of stuff. I agree with joe; i'd take a few engine lights over a transmission problem anyday, even if it was covered under warranty. Logic and commonsense tells you that once the car is out of warranty, a check engine light is probably going to be cheaper than a transmission change. And the bottom line is, if you are so happy that you have never had any 'real' problems with your accord, (except for that ever so small transmission replacement) you should rethink your interest in vw/audi product to begin with; we dont need another poster with nighmare stories about them. i think we need to ease up of of 600kgolfgt, if he has had relatively no problems with this vw's, more power to him; he's a testament to the ability to have a reliable german car, and on this forum, its easy to see why people would scoff at that fact. 600k: keep on dubbin bro.

Also, if the tranny is fixed correctly with an "updated/revised" transmission under warranty, I think the chances you'll ever need another one for 200 K miles is extremely low; further reduced by the fact that Honda said the new tranny was warranted again as if from day 0 (so I got a whole warranty from the day it was installed, long after the rest of the vehicles warranty expires). I admit, that was an embarrassing situation for Honda to have. But they dealt with it and took care of it. Would VW replace a transmission even 3 miles past warranty? Honda has learned how to make V6 trannies now though, it looks like they've improved since 2003. As for VW and Audi being like cars... well... only if they are made in the SAME factory. And Audi has different management than VW, sort of like their own entity within VW. Acura used to have better reliablity than Honda, now Honda has turned it around and is number 1. Again, unless it is the same workers in the same factory, reliability can be QUITE different. Oh yeah, my Accord was built in the USA Next time I'll get one that has a VIN number starting with a J.

I don't know about that. 10 dealer visits vs. the inconvenience of just one you don't have to get a check engine light fixed at a local auto parts store. No biggie. And i'm very familiar with ca emissions; i'm a native orange county-er.

It didn't take long, though the dealer was able to fix most of the rattle issues quite effectively when I was able to isolate the cause of the rattle and pinpoint its location. I guess thats the most dissappointing thing about those Ohio workers. Why could the Japanese build a rattleless 17K car while the Americans couldn't do it for 23 to 24K.

One thing I found comparing '07 Audi A3 to VW GTI and Passat was the VW's use a newer seat design that raises and lowers both the front and back of the seat. The Audi A3 used the older VW design that C & D described as "martini glass" like (the front's hinged and the back only raises and lowers. Much harder to get comfortable in. This doesn't apply if the above have powered seats. |

Anyway, this thread isn't about the accord so back to the subject at hand. I forgot who posted it, but good point about the seats; the adjustment on the vw is superior and devoid of all 'martini glass' comparisons! |
