The way I understand it is one parks, takes it out of gear, and then turns the key to allow the "accessories" to operate for thirty seconds. That apparently allows the turbo to spool-down correctly or something. You've made some interesting points. ~ Blue Jays ~

The thing that fails is the plumbing (sensors, diverter valve, engine wiring harness), not the engine or turbo. With regularly scheduled oil changes and synthetic oil, I see no signs that my drive train won't go 200K+ miles. Other than rear brakes and front wheel bearings, I'm still on original everything. In normal driving, you really don't need to worry about idling the engine before turning it off to keep oil flow going to the turbo as it cools down.

That turbo rush will win you over (280-300 ft-lb....Yeah Baby!!) If you are worried about turbo cool down, you can always buy programmable timers to keep engine running for couple of minutes. Otherwise just use the best oil. And when your turbo does eventaully burn out, you'll have the opportunity to replace it with a better one...Yeah Baby!!

I paid another $1700 for the Audi certification and am glad I did it now, as I have had a few small, quite odd problems with it. They do offer loaner cars, but the place in Dallas that I am dealing with is really rude!!! and hard to deal with!!! I also got a lower interest rate for keeping it certified. Anyway, I read about the mazdaspeed3, but didn't want to wait for it. Plus getting about the same price for mine as I would have, no doubt, paid for a rare mazda product, I decided to go with the Audi. It is also projected to get better gas milage than the mazdaspeed. I have also test driven the mazda 3 HB, and reading that it was somewhat comparible with the audi, even considered trading in the audi for it. THERE IS NO WAY THESE TWO CARS CAN BE EVEN SPOKEN ABOUT IN THE SAME SENTENCE! That is not to say that the speed3 wouldn't compare, but I think I am just a little spoiled to the audi overall german build and feel. I guess I would say, save for the problems with the dealership, I am very pleased with my Audi, and don't find(for the first time) any other car I would rather have. Plus, if the extra 50 or so hp is an issue with would be mazdaspeed3 drivers over the audi, one could spend an extra $600 and get a chip alone that would get you to that mark, and get you to 0-60 times in under 6 seconds! |

It may be a little tiny bit nicer, but not by a whole heck of a lot, at least not to make the quality of the interior the decisive factor when trying to decide between the two!

Reliability - built in different factories under differing quality standards; CR's results show the results! 2. 2006 free maintenance for 4 years/50K. 3. Interior is maybe not a world apart, but definitely a noticeable level apart. For example, look at the cargo lid, and the cargo carpeting material. Look at the dash; look at the real aluminum vents in the A3. 4. Either premium or sport package gives you a very nice leather wrapped steering wheel. 5. VW dealerships have a bad reputation for service. 6. Audi dealerships give you a free loaner/rental for warranty or service work. 7. Certain people on Edmunds noticed and posted that the A3 handled much better than the too high off the ground GTI. The GTI sold here apparently is more lifted than the one in Europe.
