My 2002 jetta and I have nothing in common. Our relationship is going nowhere FAST, and the lemon layers don't think i have a case. I bought the car and applied for my IDIOT license in late January, only to have the engine light come on early may. It cost $800.00 for a piece of paper stating i need $8000.00 in work done. A NEW TRANNY!!! It remained in the shop from May to June, while I continuously fought with the dealer, warranty company, and manufacturer about who is responsible for the bill. While they were having it out, I'm trying to find a ride to the bank so i can make my car payment. YES. Clearly the $14,000 loan i just signed included a transmission, but i must have missed the fine print that says..........."parts don't have to function at all." I am now on my 3rd transmission, and even though the car runs now, i'm planning for the future by watching for signs of transmission rejection. Does anyone have some info? A word? Anything? Oh yeah, and the engine light never went off. |

You stated that you have a GLX with the 2.0 engine. That's completely impossible. The GLX never came with the 2.0 4 Cyl engine. Do you have the VR6 or possibly a 1.8t. Did you have a private mechanic inspect the car prior to you buying it? You installed the 2 new trannies you purchased? Most work is covered by some sort of warranty, did you look into that possibility? Lastly (for now), you paid $14,000 for a 2002 Jetta?????

I also hear stories of VW's being in the shop for like a month ... a month? Its a car ... not a spaceship. These cars should never be in there for more than a day if the parts are available. Bottom line is that no one should buy these cars unless they like their wallet to be gouged!

Just because you buy a VW with a manual transmission does not guarantee you will not have problems and get gouged by VW. There have been numerous clutch failures on 1.8 T cars and also on TDI cars due to dual mass flywheel grease leakage, ruining the clutch disc. Of course, VW, instead of admitting a design flaw and correcting the problem at their expense, ALWAYS blames the customer. If I lost a clutch at 2K miles and the manufacturer claimed that it was my driving habits, I would be mad too. And VW charges almost $ 2k to replace clutches with dual mass flywheels at the owner's expense. Futhermore, I read numerous complaints about manual transmissions falling apart after just a few thousand miles. Where do they build these transmissions In China? |
