Well the only thing I will be towing is a jetski so the tow package was a joke. I paid the package price of $350 then it cost me additional $265 to get receiver/hitch and lighting hookups installed.

I didn't get any tow package with mine. I went to my RV dealer and had him put on a new hitch for me. I tow a 12 foot Jayco popup camper with AC that weighs about 1800 and haven't had a problem at all. You can hardly tell it's back there. The camper does have surge brakes though. I wouldn't bother with the tow package as we can only tow 2000 lbs. anyway.

I have had my RT AWD for about 3 weeks and have driven it in snow and on glare ice. It is amazing - it holds the road so well that it is very possible to substantially over-drive conditions. In the snow, the only problem is going to be clearance - it is kinda low and not getting hung up is going to be a challenge. On ice, it is possible (barely) to spin the wheels, but you gotta really try. The biggest danger is the other guys on the road with you. I never thought a car could be so sure-footed, and I have lived in snow country all my life. Have fun!

My Magnum RT is the best driving car I have ever owned. I agree with the Germanic comparison. The ride is firm yet not harsh. The steering is precise and not floaty. The car is incredibly quiet and the combination of all its positive driving and ride characteristics gives you a car that is VERY easy to get yourself in trouble with the speed police. The cruise control is excellent and keeps me at the legal limits. I would not want the car without it because it is so easy to get up to speeds above the limit without realizing it. Also, the power from the Hemi is incredible. Once again, you have to watch out because you can be way over the speed limit when passing, etc. before you know it. The Auto-stick 5 speed is nice in the bad weather. As you can obviously tell, I love this car. It has incredible room for me (6'4") in both the front and back seats plus good cargo area to haul my family's stuff. Not as much cargo area as we were used to coming out of a Town & Country van, but way more than the 300C, which was the other car we were considering. This car is a home run for DCX in my book. I don't know what model Consumer Reports tested or if the tester was biased because the Magnum is not his or her personal favorite. Frankly, I don't view my car as an appliance, which is what CR tends to do, and I put the most faith in my own testing before I buy. However, I would put a lot more faith in what Edmunds, Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Automobile, and Road & Track have to say about the Magnum than what CR has to say. CR is very biased in its own way. You really need to go drive a Magnum and decide for yourself if you like it. If you do, great. If it isn't your cup of tea, that's fine too.

Thanks for your response, heck thanks to all who responded. I'm going to test the Magnum maybe this weekend. One more thing I would like to know is that is there a ride or handling difference between the AWD and RWD? I'm sure this question at the dealership would lean in favor of the AWD due to the fact that it's more money, but I live in south FL, so traction in snow isn't an issue, but it does rain enough down here where the roads can get slippery when wet.

Went out today to three more Orange County, CA dealerships, one of which told me that their markup on the RT was 10k. Yeah, right. Went to the next two armed with my Edmund's info, including the estimated value of my trade-in, which was a '01 Subaru Outback. I was looking for a black rwd RT with side air bags, navigation, convenience groups satellite radio. One had a car coming in in a month with everything I wanted, plus a sunroof, which I really didn't care about. The other dealer had one sitting on the lot with everything but the satellite radio. Both quickly met my price, and even upped my trade-in value to make the deal. I took the one that was in stock and drove over to the Pacific Coast Highway up through Laguna Beach with a huge smile on my face. As much as I liked the Outback for its utility and comfort, I haven't been this excited about a car for years.

My father picked up his 2005 Magnum RT AWD tonight! It's Cool Vanilla with the light Greystone interior. Fully loaded. What a cool car. I totally have car envy now!

I bought my 2005 Magnum SXT (built 11/04) about six weeks ago. I've driven it about 1800 miles so far, mostly in-town commuting plus a recent 400 mile round-trip to the third coast where it lived up to my cargo handling expectations by carrying two windsurfing boards on the roof plus a ton of gear inside with plenty of room left up front for me and my passenger.

Now that I've fully adjusted from my previous car (a '99 Pontiac Grand Prix), I finally found some time to take it to the dealer to address a couple of issues which showed up during the "shakedown cruise": the (in)famous right pull issue, a single loud "pop" noise in the dashboard (usually heard only once in the morning), and a "clunk" sound at the rear end of the car when taking off slowly from a complete stop.

I'm happy to report that the dealer didn't offer any excuses - no "that's a safety feature" or "it's just road crown" mumbo jumbo - they simply took the car, worked on all three issues, and returned it to me the next day. (They kept it overnight to reproduce the "pop" sound.)

And now, the results...

The right pull was addressed by "adjusting the sub-frame" and re-aligning the front end (TSB 02-003-04). I noticed an immediate difference while driving home. So far, it feels just right!

I won't be certain they fixed the dashboard "pop" sound until a couple of mornings have passed, but they found TSB 23.018.05 to be an "exact match" for the problem.

Their solution for the rear end "clunk" noise was to "tighten suspension bolts". The ride does seem a bit smoother so maybe this needed to be done (or maybe it's a placebo effect?), but the noise has not disappeared. I can't pinpoint the source of the sound, but I suspect the differential or the drive shaft connection (U/CV joint?) to the differential.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on the dashboard issue for now and award them a score of 2 out of 3 for the first attempt. I plan on taking it back in the morning to have another crack at the last issue.

Just picked up my car 7/31/2005. Love it, three people have told me this was there dream car to get. Car is bigger than I imagined. Kids love the rear seat room. Wife loves the front passenger area, lots of room. I love the 5.7 V8. I'm amazed how much respect this car gets on the road. Here in NYC there are a lot of aggressive drivers; I have to admit, I haven't been cut off at all in this car, they actually let me go by. I hate being passed on the right on highways, and this car prevents it emphatically. This car goes from 60 to 80 like no other car I've ever driven. I've been reading this forum for the past few months, so I'm aware of some of the problems this car may have, but I wanted it anyway.

CONS: All the months I've been reading this forum, no one has mentioned anything about the lift gate NOT opening, especially during critical times like at the supermarket with a cart full of groceries, the owner's manual even mentions something about a lift gate release. Maybe that's something I will have to figure out, but sometimes it doesn't open.

I do have the imfamous pull to the right like others have mentioned. I only have 138 miles on it and the pull is not that strong yet but I will keep an eye on it. I will be taking a 600 mile trip next week, and I'll really get a chance to see how bad it is after that. Also, I'm hoping something might have been learned during the so called production shut down and a fix is forthcoming. I'm an eternal optimist.

Even after that, I still feel this car will go down as one of the classic production cars made. The aggressive stance, the room inside, the engine.

You mentioned a production shutdown. When did this supposedly happen?? What prompted it, and are there any service bulletins on the magnum that will assuage my fears about the right pull, water in the tranny, etc?? Im really being pushed into getting the '05 magnum as the '06 has a weaker warranty. Any ideas??
