Article comments for Full Test: 2007 Mazda CX-7 AWD Grand Touring - CX-7 Program Manager Shunsuke Kawasaki coined the term "metropolitan hawk" to help his design team understand his vision. He wanted his designers to fuse the conflicting ideas of urban hip/cool and the great outdoors — or, more to the point, sports car and SUV. (more)

Replying to: vbbuilt (Jul 24, 2006 2:34 pm) I have only had my CX-7 for one year on Oct. 5, 2007. I have had no problems with the vehicle at all. Mazda did have me come in and they made some changes to a computer chip in the engine and they changed my gas cap. The Mazda CX-9 has not been out one year yet, and even won the Motor Trend SUV of the year against some really touch competition. Consumers really complained about the turbo lag and I guess they had drivers that dont know how to work the turbo. They posted the slowest 0-60mph time of any test I read about. The best time was 7.7 0-60mph with Edmunds. Most were in the very low 8.0+. I have a 5 year subscription with Consumers but I dont think I will be renewing my subscription. They have truly changed in the past few years. I donot know any one that is having problems with the CX-7 I am aware of the recall on the gas cap, and also computer chip that controls the shifting between 5-6th gear. At least Mazda is manking sure that all problems are being addressed ASAP, but that doesnot make them UNRELIABLE. My gas milage has been what I expected. If I drive with a heavy foot in town, I can expect at low as 14.57mpg. My last two trips all Hwy have been 25mpg over all. The CX-7 fits our family's needs and has more std safety features than most and has a great crash test results. It has a special niche in the auto mkt and all people that I know that own one are very happy!

As a Mazda dealer, I have not heard of, or seen ANY CX-9's comming in to the shop for any reason other then scheduled maintenance My father in laws CX-7 has around 30K on it, and have had all three CEL issued taken care of, and the car runs and drives excellent. |

WHY anyone subscribes to CR is well beyond me, they're a bunch of biased MORONS. The gas cap is the reason why it is "unreliable", per reading the report card and the Fuel System being "poor". |

No CEL in 2 weeks since this simple cap replacement. 4 trips to the dealer to fix this??? Maybe that has something to do with the label - Unreliable...????

Replying to: johnny__rf (Nov 07, 2007 4:58 am) I think that has everything to do with why CR labeled it "unreliable". Does a faulty gas cap and 2 TSB's make the CX-7 unreliable? I do not think so. When I think "unreliable", I think of the car stranding you somewhere, needing to be towed. I think of the electrical system shorting out, I think of the car bucking for no reason, hard transmission shifting, stalling. Things like that. NO one has ever experienced any of those things with the CX-7. Just a CEL gas cap issue and 2 TSB's regarding a CEL. The problem then sits with Mazda waiting too long to correct these issues. If they had nipped these issues in the bud early enough, there would not be all these complaints about a CEL, and then would be deemed "reliable". I am more then confident that the CX-7 will get atleast an average rating next year, if not better then average followed by a recommendation. |

Replying to: cx7lover (Nov 06, 2007 6:59 pm) Is that unreliability? Not necessarily. I love my CX-7, but it's at least "annoying," even if there isn't a Consumer Reports category for that. |

Replying to: carlitos92 (Nov 07, 2007 11:24 am) One thing unique about the vehicles shipped here to America, is they have a Check Engine Light. This is required by law to pass emissions. The United States is one of very few countries that have such laws. The majority of the CX-7's around the globe do not have a CEL, so therefor, this gas cap problem most likely went undetected due to the lack of a check engine indicator light. Does this excuse the problem? No, but, IMO, I think that could have been part of the reason why Mazda North American Operations took so long to get it right, is they were not prepared for it. Mazda North American Operations never told dealers to "shave" the gas cap for a fix. I checked with my regional service representative, and he said no such fix was ever authorized.
