What is this discussion about? Mazda CX-7, SUV

Article comments for Full Test: 2007 Mazda CX-7 AWD Grand Touring - CX-7 Program Manager Shunsuke Kawasaki coined the term "metropolitan hawk" to help his design team understand his vision. He wanted his designers to fuse the conflicting ideas of urban hip/cool and the great outdoors — or, more to the point, sports car and SUV. (more)

Interesting point about the non-US cars not having a CEL, but I would also say that you do not have to have a CEL to notice a loose cap. Drive the thing for 350 miles, and go to fill it up at the gas station, and it's readily apparent that the cap has backed out. But honestly, the cap/filler neck is a threaded connection; basically a screw. How do you screw that up? (no pun intended)

That my dealer lied to me is not surprising, either. Oh well. Still love my car; just wish I could trust somebody besides me to work on it.

You may eventually notice it, however, you would not panic. When someone sees a CEL, they panic, and think something is horribly wrong. Then you have to bring it to the dealer and it becomes a hassle. All it takes is a little deviation in the seal that the gas cap forms to throw a CEL, not always a totally loose gas cap.

I'm not sure. Mazda did not manufacture the part, they out sourced a company to do that. Once Mazda finally realized something was wrong, they were told to fix it. It has proven to be costly, not only in parts, but potential buyers.

Despite the bad press from CR, they seem to be selling better now then they ever had. I can't keep them in stock.

We have had our CX-7 GT FWD for two years come Oct. 5, 2008. Our total milage is just below 12,000 miles.
The vehicle has been trouble free since we owned it. Mazda did replace a computer chip which controls the shifting of the six speed transmission.
Milage has been ok. In town very heavy traffic we get an average of 16-17mpg.
Hwy milage especially on long trips 22-26mpg.
The unit is a blast to drive. You feel as though you are glued to the road. The suspension is a little stiff, but check out on the last Edmunds road test trials. It out performs everything in its class. Edge is faster in 0-60mph. But after that is doesnot stay very close in all the test track manuvers.
Ford is a good choice but drive both and then make a decision. Looks, Feel, etc.

Good Luck!

Give it a 12.8:1 compression ratio as is deserved of a modern DFI engine and the FE would improve dramatically.

But then the turbo would be slower spinning up (maybe a "good" thing..??) due to the shortage of "waste" exhaust gas (ENERGY) exiting the combustion chamber.

The Edmunds Incentives page just shows low financing (0 to 2.9% APR) on the '09 CX-7, for the Philly zip code I checked. Same for my Boise zip code.

Are you hearing of cash on the hood too?

I see $1500 customer lease support at the Mazda site for my zip code, but just the low interest for buying a CX-7. That deal didn't show for a Dallas zip code.

It could be the dealer's own incentive, or some bonus bucks the dealer got for some reason, or maybe you're in a very special zip code.

Maybe someone will have the scoop to your same question over in the Mazda CX-7 Prices Paid and Buying Experiences discussion.
