Just wanted to post that I got my first (and maybe only) opportunity to drive a GS450h today. The local dealer was having a "meet and greet" type event - and had brought in most Lexus models as well as several other vehicles from their other dealerships (Mercedes and Cadillac). I can tell you - far and away - the GS450h was the car everyone wanted to drive - as it had the longest lines. The acceleration in this vehicle was absolutely stupendous! You hit the pedal and it just felt like you had an unlimited amount of power at your disposal. Everyone was thrashing the car through the course - and even at that I noticed that the fuel economy for that tank was around 22 mpg. Pretty d-mn impressive! They didn't have a GS430 there to cross compare - but it sure FELT faster than either the LS430, SC430 or E550. The only car that seemed as fast or faster was the Cadillac STS V - which cost $20K more and didn't seem anywhere near as nice. Anyway, the car was truly amazing and if I had that kind of cash at my disposal, I'd sign up immediately. Truly an amazing vehicle!

Replying to: cammer2 (May 20, 2006 12:03 pm) In a nuthshell, I felt the car had a very heavy and somewhat un-responsive feeling (in all driving modes). The power of the vehicle shines from 40-70 mph but getting there doesn't seem as publicized (0-60 in 5.2 seconds?!?). Has anyone else had this same experience? My other concern/disappointment with the vehicle was tied to the interior (which isn't something that should happen with a $60k sedan). The wood (rosewood) utilized with the black interior package looks extremely cheap. I haven't had a chance to see the other color combinations (tan, grey) however I hope that the trim on these other vehicles looks more upscale. Can anyone comment on the trim appearance/quality for the tan/grey interior package? Finally, the absence of SIRIUS satellite radio is a disappointment. I know there are conversion kits out there ($800-1,000 installed) that would enable the head unit on the vehicle to accept/display SIRIUS instead of XM however if i'm thinking of buying a new or used vehicle in this price range, SIRIUS should be a factory installed option. In conclusion, I like the 450h concept however the execution seems a little flawed. Class up the interior a bit and also give me SIRIUS and I might change have come to a slightly different conclusion |
