Saturn L300 2004 by shadow925

I guess I can consider myself lucky. I have not had to replace my brakes, but I just found out I need them replaced now (37,700.) The mechanic advised me the rotors were warped and could not be turned.
Has anyone had any luck going to GM and seeing if they would cover any of the cost of replacing the rotors? I would think if there are this many complaints they would have done something to assist their customers. I am going to try the dealership and if that fails, GM has a customer hotline. Spinning my wheels? (No pun intended)

I've heard mixed results in trying to get them to cover the cost of the rotors - and mostly they'll say it had something to do with your driving style or the lug nuts weren't torqued correctly and won't cover it unless you're under warranty.

That being said, its certainly worth a try, you may be spinning your wheels but why not try?

One recommendation though - the one reason that it might not be worth your time getting the dealer to replace the rotors is that you'll get new versions of the same lousy rotors and in 37K miles you'll be in the same position. Might be better to just put on a good quality set of rotors & pads and be done with it...just a thought

Rotors- What a nightmare by doreenr

I had to replace my rotors 4 times under 50,000 miles. Finally the dealership put the top of the line Rotors and a new set of pads on together and so far nock on wood they have been doing pretty good. I have heard that the dealships put on the crappy set and get paid good money for the after market ones. Demand for the top of the line, I did.

I changed my wifes rotors with slotted/driller aftermarket rotors..$150/pair, and new pads. So far my wifes only complaint is at 40mph they are a little noisy but they stop the car, and it has been 15000 miles so far with no issues including COSTCO using air torque wrench after rotating/balancing the tires AND the dealer doing a four wheel alignment.

 Same thing though...knock on wood.

Cheers.

Bad squeak by badger11

I have a 2004 Vue with 3.5L engine. It has 80,000 miles. I started to have a bad squeek last year (when car rocked side to side when cornering). It is now consistently squeeking/groaning whenever I go over rough pavement and car rocks side to side or back and forth. What could be the problem? I am willing to take it to the dealership but want to have a feeling for the problem before giving them a blank check. I wonder if it is bad shocks or shocks (unlikely since it does not seem to "bobble") or bad wheel hardware -- maybe control arms? I am not good with car stuff so my amateur diagnosis is probably off base. The squeeking is really loud. It seems to be out of the front area of my car -- probably near the front wheels. Thanks for any help.

Hey Badger....

2 things first....

1. Swaybar links shot...they're the rods that attach the swaybar to the struts...2 bolts, easy remove & replace

2. But try this first: At the top of the struts under the hood, if you look into where the strut is bolted on, there is a rubber bushing at the top with slots all around...squirt a little white lithium grease into each of the slots, might make your squeak go away and its a cheap fix.

Don't be surprised if the struts are soon needing replacement - even though I don't think they're the source of your noises, 80K miles on the struts in these Vues seems to be the top end of their longevity.

Excellent recommendation. I will try the grease......and will see about strut replacement. I greatly appreciate the comments.

I recently had to have this done. It cost me about $450.00 to get both cables replaced at the dealership.

When I bought my 05 Vue I had issues with the rotors, but they resolved the issue (thank God). For your stains, I had Saturn use the Sominize on the seat at purchase time. Now that the warranty is over I use my Hoover rug machine and use the solution for rugs from Hoover . They come out as if Saturn did them. Good Luck.
