I had the opportunity to test drive the first Hybrid Civic we that have gotten in stock. I must say that I was truly impressed! There is truly no comparison to the 2005 model other than they are both hybrid automobiles. This vehicle was peppy for a hybrid but also extremely smooth. The near silent operation of the vehicle made you very aware that you are driving technology that is much more advanced that most vehicles on the road today. The instrumentation was laid out very nice and made it easy to monitor the battery charge, fuel economy as well as weither the electric motor was assisting the engine or charging the batteries. For the purpose of this vehicle storage was ok, I think that many people would prefer to see a fold down rear seat. I'm curious what other peoples first impressions are on the new Honda Civic Hybrid and I would like to hear from you.

I live in Denver and do a lot of mountain driving and am about 99% sold on buying a civic hybrid. My only hesitation is that when I've test driven in the mountains, the RPMs approach 5, 6000. the dealer tells me this is normal, but I've never driven an automatic and am used to controlling the car by shifting. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Replying to: magco2 (Feb 18, 2006 10:40 am) I have posted my genuine respect for the '06 HCH, but in your situation I think you would be better off with a non-hybrid. Your situation is not anything close to achieving the potential for a hybrid, and would be more like an exercise in frustration. Sure, downhill would be fine, but really, it's significant doses of serious uphill that's the concern here.   You clearly need a rugged powertrain, with a conventional transmission. Choose a good fuel-efficient ICE with good torque, or try out the smaller diesels. Diesels inherently have plenty of torque and deliver superb fuel economy.

Replying to: magco2 (Mar 01, 2006 9:17 pm) Yes it is normal... unfortunately. It is the one aspect of the car I really don't like at all. Since it is a CVT transmission you can't hold down the revs in a higher gear.   If I did a lot of hilly driving I would consider the regular Civic with a manual. It is that annoying to me.   Great car otherwise.

Replying to: pf_flyer (Jul 20, 2006 3:41 am) We just test drove a 2007 Hybrid. It drove really well. I am considering buying one and have been doing a lot of research. I have seen some pretty serious transmission issues posted for 2003, 2004 hybrids. Also, the MPG postings are polar opposites (some getting 50+ while others in the 30s). Any feedback on how the 2006 models have been doing would be greatly appreciated!
