Well... by lemko

...I'd pick three cars as significant "lasts." The 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood, Buick Roadmaster, and Chevrolet Caprice were the last full-size, full-frame, RWD, V-8-powered GM cars. Ten years ago, these cars were numbers one, two, and three on my car-shopping short list

Hmmm. I'd say the Impala SS would be a good runner-up for 1994 and might have made the grade if GM hadn't killed the RWD cars two years later to build more Tahoes.

Normally, I wouldn't know.... But, I had a '95 Pathfinder SE... the last of the boxy ones...

Well, it wasn't really the last.... as noted by others, the boxy look is back...

I think you're right on the Pathfinder

The car that coincided with the Taurus' fall from grace can't be the best in 96. I'd vote for the 1996 E just because of its early use of side airbags and its new face, compared to a poorly themed Taurus. There has to be something better than either.

I'm a Little dissapointed in all of you! Who could forget the introduction of the Audi TT in '98? Is it not a revolutionary car or a worldwide success?
The TT took over press intrest for a great deal of time with its unique shape and design, but especially for its exemplary performance. And we can't forget the stunning interior. Not only that, but the TT made great use of modern structural materials, computers, and the wonderful Quattro awd system.

did the new Beetle come out? 1997? I could see that thing getting picked because many people consider it to be what kicked off the retro craze. Although honestly, I think the retro craze really started with the Dodge Ram in 1994.

thanks for the explanation, Karl. I guess I just got thrown off by the way the Ram's description was worded. Made me think that they were crediting the '94 with being the first year it offered a 4-speed automatic, period.

The first year of the reincarnated Beetle was 1998. It might be the pick for that year.
