Replying to: british_rover (Sep 29, 2006 2:52 pm) I don't know about the Mercedes minivan....MB does have a full line of vans in Europe of course, but we see nothing aside from the deluxe-Pacifica styled R class and the non-MB badged Sprinter. Here's a Euro MB van...not so mini I guess

Replying to: british_rover (Sep 29, 2006 4:15 pm) I have seen a Sprinter with a MB badge too, being used as an errand runner by the local MB franchise. I am sure the MB grille is an easy switch. If I had one I might do the same...technically, it is a Mercedes! With 1990 being more or less a shoe-in...how about 1991?

Now for 1992, does anyone think the Camry will get it again, since that generation was considered the "gold standard" by so many? OTOH, it didn't become the best-selling car until the generation after this one.

| I am suprised that no one has considered the Dodge Viper. The Viper is the reason Dodge was able to change its whole direction from the K car era to what we think of now as powerful cars with high horsepower. I understand that there used to be that image from the 60's and the 70's but the Viper reignited the passion for some. Not to mention it was the first domestic competitor to the Corvette in years, and better for a while. | |

Except that one-hit wonders don't change the public anymore. We've grown smarter and more savvy, thanks, I think, to the InterNet. The old 60-something executives can't imagine a world where their marketing tricks that used to work now suddenly don't. As for 1990 - no clue. |

| 1990 should have definately gone to the Lexus LS400. That was a ridiculously significant car in the automotive world that year, as it caused other luxury makers to rethink how they made & sold luxury cars. It caused Mercedes to become less stubborn, to cut costs and prices. As well as the Lexus LS400 caused other luxury carmakers to to wake up also. Such as after the LS400, Cadillac finally started to get serious about building a world class Seville(even though it took them still another half decade to build one). Also, since 1990 the luxury car market has literally exploded! I doubt the luxury market would be this big without Lexus, since Mercedes would probably still have a stick up it's you know what. | |
