Replying to: KarenS (Jul 17, 2006 8:01 am) "Then we considered the small matter of 34 grand separating the base prices of the two, squashing any possibility of cross-shopping or meaningful comparison. While Cadillac has the BMW M5 in its sights, the SRT8 has no true direct rival, making a full-on comparison between the SRT8 and STS-V a fruitless matter, no matter how tempting." THAT is just silly. Of course the 300C SRT8 can be compared [meaningfully] to an STS-V. The article itself proves that. And what possible difference does it make what Cadillac has in its 'sights' for the STS-V? It is also silly to suggest [as the article did] that if someone can AFFORD an STS-V they would never seriously consider [i.e. 'cross-shop'] any car that would cost them $34,000 LESS!! I own a 2006 Chrysler 300C SRT8. It's a wonderful car. But I assure you - I seriously considered many other cars - including the STS-V and the BMW M's and Mercedes AMG's and so on. I also seriously considered the Acura TL and the Infiniti G35 and M45. [Among others] Specific to Cadillac - I never once said to myself, "Well... since CADILLAC doesn't consider the 300C SRT8 [or whatever] a competitive model to their STS-V - I better just throw all of those other brochures in the garbage!!" What I discovered in my comparisons is that the STS-V is NOT $34,000 'better' than the 300C SRT8. Sure - the interior detailing is 'softer' and more luxurious looking in the Cadillac - but you can buy a whole lot of soft leather and real wood for 34 BIG ONES. I bought the SRT8 because I figured that it was a Cadillac STS-V with a $34,000 rebate. Speaking of comparisons... Would 'you' [as in anyone] conclude that since the Toyota Camry is now [let's say] $20,000 more than a Honda Accord - that the two cars can no longer be 'meaningfully' compared to one another? OR would you simply conclude that, "The Camry is OVER-PRICED?" Have a great day, Craig!! |
