This turned into a torrential storm of oil the day I drove it off the lot after getting another part fixed. Yes, again, live and learn. I wish this sort of information were up at consumerreports.com and Honda sites. Thank God I saw this this morning. All best to you who can afford them! Take care! Why would you want a flex fuel vehicle? There is no E85 available in Los Angeles. Only one station on the whole west coast. The very best mileage you can expect out of a Flex fuel vehicle would be with a Chevy Monte Carlo. It gets 25 MPG combined on gasoline and 19 MPG combined on E85.   If emissions is your goal. Here is a list of PZEV vehicles. One should fit in your budget. Replying to: xtal1971 (Jul 07, 2006 6:35 am) How many miles did it have? sounds like you may have had a bad head gasket or cracked head allowing pressure to the block and cooling system....Bad radiator along with pan gasket on a 2001 model is very rare with low miles...   I would have tried to work through the problems before giving it up so easily... A compression test would be the first thing on my to do list.... That would have told you a lot about the health of your car... It should have been the first thing on your dealers list as well... (you can't tune a engine with bad compression)It would be a big waist of time and money.... I guess people just don't work on there own cars anymore.....confuse:   Steve, AKA: AlTER : ECO

Finding service for a new or different technology is always something that's going to have to sort itself out.   Of course, it's also an opportunity for some to expand into or start up new businesses!

Replying to: xtal1971 (Jul 07, 2006 3:55 am) Like any car, if you find one that was dealer maintained, and comes with service records, you're less likely to run into this type of problem/s. GX owners tend to be great record keepers. Buying an old fleet car is always a question mark and would be a crapshoot at best. Buying blind from a broker has it's own problems, as you find out. I would only buy used under the first set of conditions. A well maintained car would be worth paying a little more for. Getting a car checked and passed by a mechanic only reveals immediate problems, like leaks, unless they do far more diagnostic work, like compression tests, radiator leak tests, etc. Most people don't want to pay more than $100 ( or way less) to get a car checked out. If you don't have a dealer history on the car, this could be money well spent. Lastly, you can walk into any Honda dealership, find the service director and ask him to pull any info on recalls/service bulletins that have been issued on that car. He will gladly do this for you. The service writters are usually too buisy outside. If they don't do this for you, go to another dealership and try again... and don't go back to the place that wouldn't oblige you.

Thread title suggests this is the right place for this question...   Anybody have recommendations for mechanics (Honda dealer or otherwise) with good knowledge about both CNG and CVT in the CA bay area? Saw that somebody was posting bay area fuel prices on the pricing thread, so figured there must be a few other bay area GX owners. Replying to: kate_g (Jul 09, 2007 11:49 am) I heard Stevens Creek Honda services GX's. I know they have CNG certified mechanics. I think they service San Jose city vehicles. I've also read that there service department isn't the greatest either, but I think they are the only dealership in the south bay with CNG certified mechanics. You could also try Capitol Honda in San Jose. I myself never like dealerships and I try to stay away from them as much as possible. Just my two cents. Anthony
