#43 of 178 1995 Ford Escort noise problem
Oct 11, 2007 (7:46 pm)
This car is automatic, power windows, remote starter, and has 97K miles - just replaced the air filter, oil filter, brake rotors. The car runs fine except---it starts fine, takes off fine but after about ten minutes' drive time, a strange noise seems to come from outside the car. The noise stops when idling but after going for a few minutes, the noise starts again.
I have opened the hood with the car running but do not hear the noise.
Any help out there?

maybe too late but it sounds like your timing belt has jumped one tooth and needs to be looked at

#47 of 178 Ford Escort 97 idles rough when starting the engine
Nov 09, 2007 (11:59 am)
I have Escort 1997 and I have some extraordinary vibration and noise when I start the engine. It does occur random (not each time when started), and disappears in 20-30 seconds. There is no engine check light on, but a noise as from a vacuum leak. The car runs good, there is just this strange noise, that is making me think something with the air intake might be wrong. Any ideas if it might be something else or where to track eventual leak down on the hosing???

I have had a 97 escort for over 4 years now and the only problem i have had with it is the alternator. I have aftermarket parts on it and it still runs great with 113,000mi. on it . It seems to me that you got a bad deal from someone.

check your iac sensor (idle air control) that could have something to do with your throttle problem. As for the coolant leak you might want to either put a stop leak mix in or see a mechanic.

i have a 97 escort with 2 1/2 inch pipes from the cat back. a K&N typhoon cold air intake and some other here and theres. To me it sounds more like a transmission problem. You keep saying it happens in 2nd gear. Unless it is just a sensor in your trans.
#51 of 178 Engine vibration

I have a '94 Escort wagon. The only problem I've had with the car, except for a blown head gasket, is a persistent vibration at idle and low revs. Disappears when up to speed. The motor mounts seam ok. Local dealership said that there were upgraded mounts at approx. $200.00 for each( x3). One fellow suggested that the harmonic balancer might be screwed. Yet another mentioned something about a balancer shaft, whatever that is. Have any of you had a similar problem and did you find a cure?
#52 of 178 are all Escorts loud?
Dec 04, 2007 (4:58 pm)
So I'm looking for a car for my college-age daughter and have found several very nice Escorts at good prices, mileage in the +80k range. They are in very good condition and are equipped nicely. I know from research that they are fairly reliable and are safe but...both of the cars are LOUD - I can hardly hear myself think! A salesman told me they ware all that way because they don't have gel-filled motor mounts.
Are they all loud? Is that the reason why? If so, can anything be done about it for a reasonable cost?
