Using reg 87 octane. In town mileage has slipped a little because my wife doesn't seem to comprehend the easy throttle, light break concept. Hey, it's her car, lol. With her driving we get between 20 and 22 mpg in town. Still getting 25 to 27 hi-way, depending on who's driving.

Highway mileage for a 4cylHighlander 2009? by vicarage

6000 miles on this 2009 stripped down version and we get 22/23 around the coast of Florida where we live and ONLY 21.6 on the highway - Florida Turnpike- average speed 80mph pulling 2350 revs -- this is absurd....
fueleconomy.gov says the car is only supposed to get 18/24 vs the sticker saying 20/27 range for the highway is supposed to be 22-32 ( in someone's dream!)

Toyota response is drive at 55mph -- Florida Highway Patrol cautions NOT to do that as the average speed on the TPK is 80 mph.....

Looks like Toyota may have a legal issue here...........

I can see you getting 25/26 MPG if you slowed down to around 65 MPH, is it really heavy traffic on the Florida turnpike?

Mixed MPG is 25. car has almost 9K miles on it. Earlier this year I put about 5K miles on it on a drive from one end of the Louisiana Purchase to the other(Houston to Oregon), and averaged 30 MPG and 75mph while on the highway.
I really wanted the GMC Acadia, but Detroit didn't produce a large SUV(90 cubic feet or more) with a reasonable fuel economy at the time.

HELP! I can't get past 16.9 mpg! by johnstp

I recently purchased a 2006 Highlander Limited V6 4X4 with the third-row seat. The vehicle has 52,000 miles on it. Bought it Certified Pre-Owned.

The mpg is awful and seems to be way out of line with what I'm reading here. I live in the country, so most of my driving is constant, highway speed. Very little stop and go. Very little idling.

I'm doing the actual math, rather than relying on the digital readout. So far, I've put about 2,300 miles on the car and my best tank yielded 16.9 mpg. Basically, I'm hovering between 16 and 17 mpg.

Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions I can take to the dealer?

HELP!!!

The EPA rating is 17/23. How fast do you go on the highway?

Getting about 16 mpg around town and wondering if my air/fuel sensor could be going bad and causing it to run rich. I also have a smell of gas in the garage after driving. No leaks that I can see. Also have the dreaded CEL come on after an inspection due to a hose off the air cleaner. Got the P1150 code but cleared the code, cleaned the front sensor contacts at the connector and hasn't come back on. But wondering if sensor could be going bad.
Any thoughts from the collective brain trust?
Thanks!
