Mis-classification And Misunderstood by arcadianwings

I'm a little tired of reading review articles comparing Versa to Yaris and Fit. Two months into owning my Versa and comparing my experience to what I read in those articles when I was researching prior to the purchase, I have to say this model is definitely mis-classified as a sub-compact. Interior room or performance wise, it is comparable to either Corolla or Civic. While it is true that Nissan is marketing Versa as a competitor to Yaris and Fit, I'd expect most reviewers (particularly those receiving a paycheck writing the test drive articles) to make a proper and logical comparison.

Cars of this size and configurations may never get total acceptance in America given the long-standing culture of driving bulky and powerful models. I myself would not have thought that I would ever buy a 1.8L hatchback ten years ago. However, at this moment, I have to say this vehicle is probably the best purchase I have made in my life.

You hit it on the head: Nissan positions the Versa in the same class as cars like the Fit and Yaris, so that's where the pros slot the Versa for comparos. But you and I can slot it anywhere we choose.

This is a pervasive issue as cars continue to get up-sized. The Sentra and Elantra--actually even the Versa--are classed as mid-sized cars by the EPA based on interior volume. So will everyone start comparing them to cars like the Accord and Mazda6? Not likely. But if someone is looking mostly for mid-sized interior room and doesn't mind a relatively low-powered engine (compared to typical mid-sized cars), cars like these are an economical alternative.

I'm pretty sure. They explained it to us when they were showing us around inside the hood. My husband understands it a bit better than I do, but from what I understand its a new form of electric ignition system. But yes, we were very clearly told, no spark plugs.

As far as the power steering goes, It was explained to us that the power steering is electric and in fact uses no belts. I dont know how it works... i just know it does.

Versa uses timing chain and ignition coils with spark plugs. I don't know what type of spark plugs are used but the official maintenance schedule does not call for replacement until 105,000 miles.

iradium-tipped plugs. It just sounded weird to me that the Versa would not have spark plugs. Needed the info. on that one!

Question on Bluetooth by drogoff

Hi all.

We just got a Versa SL for my daughter yesterday. Seems like a great car. I have a question about the Bluetooth. Her phone doesn't have it, but she will probably get a new one in a few months. Does the Bluetooth in the Versa support the stereo profile? It would be great to use a phone as an mp3 player if the Versa supports this.

Thanks!

Yes and No.

The Bluetooth has nothing to do with the MP3 capaiblities of the phone, just the phone itself. If your daughters new phone has a Phone jack, it then can be pluged into the AUX jack in the stereo and run it that way.

Versa damage to rear. by kerryeb

We bought our oldest daughter a new 07 Versa in July and unfortunately she was in an accident 2 weeks ago. Rear ended at about 40-45 mph and the damage exceeded 10k and the Insurance Co. is considering the car a total loss due to the right rail being damaged. She was so in love with her car and with life and even named her car. The Red Alert Versa had a little over 3000 miles on it and she was devastated when I called her and gave her the bad news. Remarkably there was no glass breakage and so far she seems physically OK. We bought the Versa because it had high safety ratings for front and side impact, but to have it totaled from a rear end collision was something we didn't think much of until the accident. Oh, she wants another one just like it and we're thinking about replacing it with just that.

Nissan Versa in Mexico by mmcg80

I read a lot of good comments about Nissan Versa. In Mexico I bought a Nissan Versa=Nissan Tiida and doesnīt have the same security options like Nissan Versa USA specs. I satisfied with performance in highways, but in Mexico the service in Nissan agencies is too bad. Some problems with plastic covers, noise in bumpers and the funny radio mute when door locks activates specially in the morning and the Nissan Agencies canīt fixed. The car is great, and may be if sporty version with 2.0 or 2.5 engine appears in the future I want the first person in Mexico to buy. And for last, if you need information mechanics related, you can contact me. I learn to fix some problems with my car. My car is the guinea pig to learn.

We now have 16,000 kms on our 2007 Versa, it's been to the Grand Canyon , through one Canadian Province, 7 states, 3 time zones and over several Continental Divides and Mt. Passes.
I think that qualifies one more Versa comment on this site.
The Vesa has the best 'cruise control' on the road..it will hold your set speed without gaining or losing one mph, up hills and down grades.
Mind you on long pulls as the engine (with CVT transmission) keeps increasing rpms, when you hit the top of the hill, it will be screaming like a Mix Master set on Blend!
The MPG numbers are very susceptible to weather conditions...crossing the Texas panhandle in gale force head winds, we were getting only 22 mpg, but on a long stretch of road North of Flagstaff Az with a good 'tail wind' we got 42.
Only one trip into the dealership in the rain when my wife noticed the rear wiper busily cleaning the trunk instead of the window.

So far so good, still our favorite vehicle.

This link will take you to my Versa project to date.
