Article Comments: Full Test: 2007 Nissan Versa
| I bought a Nissan Versa 2007 in August, the SL trim with no added features. I have been more than happy with its performance. It gives me 30 mpg on my daily mixed inner city/ interstate commute of 20 miles. It drives well, though the slow braking time took some getting used to. Its a dream to maneuver in between two monster cars parked in a cramped lot. Being Asian, I'm used to small car looks, and I actually think it looks rather zippy. Several people have come up to me in parking lots, admiring 'the little red car' and asking about the mileage. For anybody who lives in a city and drives on city roads, I'd say the Versa is a much better ride than the SUVs and the trucks! It has enough space for a family, but I feel the real target group is single people looking for an efficient commuter car. | |

The next time inside line wants a full test done, get a 55 year old lady who goes grocery shopping to do that. That'll bring the reviews closer to real life. |

I dont claim to know much of anything about cars, but I dont think you have to be brilliant to know what a good deal is at the dealership. I come from a long line of Nissan lovers, but now that I'm out of my parents house and married, I could never afford one. My husband and I decided to head to the dealership when our boat of a Dodge Stratus was screaming for 1,500.00 in repairs. We went online to see what was available, and came across the Nissan Versa. I nearly fell over when I saw the pricetag, along with the list of standard features. Its so relieving to not have to pay extra for something as basic as A/C!! We went to the lot, test drove it, and drove one home that night. Its a dream of a car to drive. We drive about 50/50 city to highway, and it handles beautifully throughout both enviroments. The seats are really comfortable and hug you the way the old Nissan Pickups used to do. I love that they've moved the controls for the seats to the inner side, so i dont have to fish for them when i need them. The electric power steering seems SO incredibly responsive and the car turns on a dime. The breaks seem to be calibrated beautifull, with a bit of give so that i dont feel like a slight tap is going to send me into a whiplash style stop. This makes it once again, great in its native enviroment- stop and go traffic and slow on ramps. The ammount of room inside, with the large open windows provides for a really comfortable ride with great visability. The side view mirrors are awesomely huge, and i no longer have to panic when changing lanes. I dont know much about cars, but i know that the versa permentantly solves two of our biggest car problems A)No Serpentine Belt to get worn, or squeak on winter mornings... B)No dead spark plugs to replace, as the versa has none. Again, I dont know much about cars, but I'm delighted to own a versa. It may be Nissan's entry lvl car, but its still a Nissan and thats a name I trust. They never fail to deliver a comfortable ride with a GREAT engine. If you live in the city, you will not regret purchasing this little gem.

I've never heard of a car without drive belts or plugs. aside from a diesel, which have glow plugs that periodically need replaced about as often as spark plugs do. Anyhow, congrats on your purchase. I too have been a long time nissan owner, and believe they're built as well as anything out there. if not better. |

If not it has a timing belt, the type that need replacing every 60,000 miles. If it doesn't have a timing belt it has a timing chain. And no spark plugs? Huh? Are you sure it doesn't just have the new iradium-tipped spark plugs like my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS has that supposedly go 100,000 miles? My Lancer GTS has a timing chain that is not supposed to ever need replacing. The Versa plugs may be those that are iradium-tipped. Somebody with these two answers that knows please do chime in and correct us as the need may be. |

Replying to: iluvmysephia1 (May 02, 2007 5:21 pm) no, it never will. but be careful not to ever run it low on oil. that will cause the guides to wear out requiring the chain to be replaced. and thats the downside of a chain. they're expensive as heck to replace. |

Replying to: inharmsway (May 02, 2007 6:52 pm) yes, nissan only uses chains. but it still has to have some way of turning the altenator, ac compressor, power steeing pump at the least. I can't think of any way other than a belt to turn those. |

I will keep that in mind. No, we don't even want to get close to heading down that road. I do know that I won't miss the every 60,000 mile timing belt change of my two Kia's. |
