The hybrid VUE is a much simpler hybrid system than the hybrids from Toyota, Ford, or others. Simpler makes it less expensive to produce and for people to own... it also should be less for maintenance or repair. It still saves a bunch of gas as a commuter, but you can still haul 5 comfortably. At the $23k price point it should be a hit.

I feel that the 4 cylinder VUE is a better way to go. The VUE is not a true hybrid like the Prius, it is a hybrid like the Accord--the motor kicks in and helps the engine. You can get a 4 cylinder VUE for under 20 grand, making the minor gas savings moot, in my opinion. Of course, no one should ever buy a hybrid unless the sole goal is to use less gasoline. Hybrids are more expensive to buy and own than the gas equivalent--making hybrids as "money savers" a losing proposition. If you want to use less gasoline, then go ahead. If you think you're going to save money, then buy a 4 cylinder VUE and save some money.

Since some hybrids also significantly reduce smog-related emissions, that advice simply doesn't make any sense.

Why isn't "breaking even" acceptable?

Thanks for the review!
I look forward to driving the Greenline myself. GM is unveiling consumer test drives of the Saturn VUE Greenline at Hybridfest in Madison, Wisconsin a few weeks from now. This is way before the Greenlines will even be in dealer showrooms.

Than the current Vue, which has pretty poor reliability over all.

Thanks for your input; however, hybrids are only good for cutting your use of gasoline--that is why people buy them. Also, it takes about 6 years to "break even" with a hybrid. Again, since the VUE Green line is not a true hybrid (it's like a Honda system and not a Toyota system), the Green Line probably takes longer than that to "break even." Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I see you own a Ford and a Honda--and not a VUE. What is your experience with Saturn to be able to make such a statement? Our VUE is our 4th Saturn and reliability has never been an issue with us. How many Saturns have you owned?

And you base this statement: "Than the current Vue, which has pretty poor reliability over all." on data and facts from?
Per JD Powers(which is not biased data as is Consumer Reports), Saturn brand is at least average which is the same as your Ford, and the same as Honda in overall Mfg quality; Mechanical, Interior and Body mfg quality...

Not interested in the Saturn brand, only the Vue. JD Powers is only initial quality, correct? Personally, I prefer longer term stuff, and yes, I trust Consumer Union publications. They don't take advertising money.

FWIW, CR shows my Freestyle to be poor quality, but their view is distorted by early problems with the AWD model in 2005. They rate the 500 as excellent, and the FW is essentially a 500 with very different sheet metal and suspension. So they can be wrong about a certain model.

But I test drove the 2003 Vue, and selected the Honda CR-V hands down. From looking at the Vue forums, I think I made a good choice.
