| I think a lot of those families that splurge on Sienna Limiteds and Odyssey Tourings and Town & Country Limiteds might have been swayed by this thing IF it were priced better. The fact is that even the 2WD version is expensive; it may start at $43k, but after piling on options similar to what the aforementioned vans have, the M-B's sticker balloons to well over $55k. Families are too price-sensitive to make that kind of a jump just for a three-pointed star and apparently a fair amount are willing to keep their less-roomy, but similarly priced SUV, too. | |

| As a major Mercedes-Benz aficianado I was always a little surprised by the R-Class. It was not particularly attractive, quick, or sumptuous and yet the price was ludicrously high. It just never really convinced me that it was deserving of wearing the three-pointed star. Having said that, the fact that there was not a single reliability issue (asside from the sporadically misbehaving rear hatch) during the year is a very promising sign to me. Mercedes is finally getting its act together and reemphasizing quality, I certainly get that feeling with my S550 but it is good to know lower priced models are recieving the same treatment. | |
