Well, the XKR certainly changed the equation, since the 650's lead was mostly in horsepower. The M6 has even more power than the XKR's 420 horses, but it also costs a lot more. The XKR is a niche car between the 650 and the M6, and it's only rivals in the under $100,000 class are much different -- the small Porsche 911, the too-big and comfy Mercedes CL 500. It's almost a budget-priced Aston Martin.

Like you I also considered the XK when going for a convertible last December but unlike you I purchased the 650. I tried both and the Jag did not compare with the agility and handling of the 650. Although the 2007 650 MSRP is over $80K (not $74 as you said) with some of the few options (many features are standard) my car came up to over $85K, and it is worth every cent of it. From my experience and research BMWs are much better then Jags when it comes to resale value as well. Anyway, congrats to us both I'd say!

Jag all the way by drguido

I purchased the BMW convertible. I liked the extra room and it did have better pickup (plus the supercharger whine wasn't as sexy as the low growl of the BMW). There was only an xk8 at our local dealership, so I had not driven the xkr. After less than 9 months, I'm putting the BMW up for sale and getting the jag. The car drives fine, but the idrive is a nightmare. I have had it in the shop 7 times for reprogramming and it never completely solves the problem. Looking at various message boards, it looks like this is a problem with BMW's idrive and I doubt they will ever get it fixed- they refuse to do anything but reload the software.
I agree with nanne- the resale of the Jag is horrid, but there are already some 1000-5000 mile '07 xkr's out there and the depreciation has already been taken
