I don't know much about clutches, but the RAnger has a hydrolic clutch.

I think yours is sticking for some reason. I don't know if flushing the fluid and refilling with new might help...

Or, it might have to have a new slave cylinder put on it.

Do you have tilt steering? The flashing light is a problem in the trans control system, usually caused by a wire chafe in the column causing the OD OFF button to short out on the column.

I have a 98 ranger that does the same thing once I get up around 50+mph....very hard shift. I took it in for a diag and I was told that i need the following:
torque converter
tcc solenoid
trans wiring harness and filter $ pan gasket....all for a whopping $1023.42....

99 Ford Ranger Drivetrain Slippage by alamoranger

I recently purchased a `99 Ranger 4x4 xlt. I like it a lot. It has the 3.0 L motor, manual 5 speed trans.

It seems to be slipping, but not at the clutch. Are there known problems with either the trans or the rear end? It's only slipping a little bit like at the axle spline or maybe the tail shaft of the trans, not sure.

Thanks for you input.
