2007 HONDA CIVIC LX COUPE AIR CONDITIONER ISSUES by jimshorts

I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC LX COUPE AND ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. IT HANDLES INCREDIBLY WELL, ACCELERATES WELL AND I'VE BEEN AVERAGING OVER 40 MILES TO THE GALLON (I DRIVE MOSTLY ON THE FREEWAY). HOWEVER AT AROUND THE 7,000 MILE MARK I TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONER TO FIND THAT IT WAS BLOWING ONLY HOT AIR. THE DEALERSHIP WAS VERY GOOD ABOUT GETTING ME AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. I BROUGHT IT IN AND THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED. A LINE USED TO CARY LUBRICANT TO THE COMPRESSOR HAD BEEN LEAKING. THE CLUTCH AND COMPRESSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS THEY WERE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. IN ADDITION A NEW AIR CONDITIONER COIL AND OIL LINES WERE INSTALLED. THE MECHANIC WHO DID THE JOB, WHO ALSO HAPPENS TO BE A FRIEND OF MINE, COMMENTED THAT IT WAS AN UNUSUAL SITUATION BUT HE ISN'T CONFIDENT THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. I'VE HAD SOME ISSUES ALSO WITH A 2007 HONDA CRV AND THE DIFFERENTIAL CLUTCH NEEDING REPLACEMENT AFTER ONLY 13,000 MILES. HONDA WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR LEGENDARY RELIABILITY?

I can't seem to find out what this is about. Can someone tell me what's going on with the bearings and ABS? I tried 4 times to click on it and joined the group but not able to see anything about them. Thank you.

This is from http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov
Make / Models : Model/Build Years:
     HONDA / CIVIC 2006-2007

Recall Number: 07V399000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HOUSING USES AN O-RING SEAL TO PREVENT LEAKAGE TO OR FROM THE WHEEL BEARING. IF ASSEMBLED IMPROPERLY, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAL PROPERLY ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE WHEEL BEARING AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BEARING, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS WHERE USE OF ROAD SALT IS PREVALENT. IF THE DRIVER CONTINUES TO DRIVE WITH THIS CONDITION IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE WHEEL BEARING TO BECOME LOOSE, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE BEARING TO FAIL.
Consequence:
THIS COULD CAUSE A WHEEL TO FALL OFF OF THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE REAR ABS SENSORS AND WHEEL BEARINGS FOR DAMAGED PARTS AND REPLACE THEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 17, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
Notes:
HONDA RECALL NO. Q56. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION¿S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.

Thank you Will26. I sent an email to the dealer but haven't heard anything back. If I don't I'll get in touch with Honda or the NHTSA.

Being all too familiar with recalls from my VW I am pretty sure we'll be getting something in the mail about this. I bought this car hoping I wouldn't be in "the shop" for things like this so it's pretty annoying. Also the fact that I am driving to Madison from Central Wi. this weekend freaks me about a little. I'm going to freak out about my wheel falling off with every bump I hit!

If you are registered with Honda's Ownerlink, it will tell you if your specific car (based on VIN) falls under the recall - www.ahm-ownerlink.com (my 2007 EX Sedan is not affected by this recall, so it's either based on a particular production period or partuclar part series).

So, going by those VINs, only Canadian made cars are affected (the first digit, "2" is the country of origin code, with "1" being the USA and "2" being Canada).

Don't take it for a guarantee, but i'm pretty sure that ALL of the new-model civics are made in Canada...
