Regarding the buzzing sound when starting, I sometimes accidently press 1 of the buttons on the key when turning it and get a loud buzzing and car won't start until I turn off and turn key again, may or may not be related to your problem. Have 07 EX sedan w/ 58,000 miles and no problems except for a couple of recalls that the Honda dealer took care of. Very happy w/ the car and will probably buy another one.

Hi,

I think my civic has AC problem because its not cooling enough.
Air coming out of the louvers are not cool until I turn the knob near full or when put in max AC.

I will not be charged if I let the dealer fix it right?

Problems with 2006 Civic SI by lt_honda_owner

I was a long time Honda fan. My experience with the 2006 SI and especially with a recent problem with idler/secondary pulley failure have turned me off to Honda. Several design problems with SI. Trunk lid does not operate correctly as the design does not take into account the heavier rear deck spoiler on the SI. The spoiler is ugly and I didn't really want it to begin with but that is another issue. Both fog light lenses broken within six months of purchase. I drive in normal suburban roads. Honda offers no lens protection on the fog lights. Navigation system is an overpriced piece of junk. I think this is true of all factory nav systems. The development lead time on a car is so long that any electronics you buy will be out of date by the time the car is delivered to market. Also, buy the time you own a car for a couple of years the electronics in something like a nav system are even more antiquated. I didn't have much choice in this matter as dealer only had nav equipped cars available. The dealers benefit from the big mark up on nav systems. Lastly, the idler/secondary pulley is failing on my 2006 SI with 65000 miles. Honda will not help me in any way. This is clearly a premature failure. I know other car manufacturers have much better warranties than Honda. I didn't used to consider this a big selling point but with Honda being unwilling to stand behind their product I will look at longer warranties as a very important issue. My next vehicle will not be a Honda product. I have had several Honda's and have convinced other family members to buy Honda. It is too bad Honda would not stand behind what used to be the best cars on the market. Have any of you had similar experience?

Funny, but my Si sedan is my best Honda/Acura product yet. 30mil film will keep the foglights from getting broken and K2 fogs from eBay are much cheaper when you do replace them, and not much worse, provided you keep as much of the OEM as is feasible. A State Farm Rand McNally road atlas is free, hence much cheaper than navigation and is sufficient for most people, especially if you bought the day/night rearview with compass to get a directional bearing. Shite happens and an idler pulley going out 5000 beyond powertrain warranty isn't the worst thing.

You seem to have a low threshold for complaining.

Shiite doesn't just happen. Failure of a bearing prematurely was due to either poor design or poor quality control. Mechanical failures are not a mystery or magical. Thanks for the tip on the film. I may have a low threshold for complaining but I have never had premature failure in any Honda before 150K or better. This failure was actually > 30k beyond warranty. In the past I was never concerned about Honda warranty. I assumed it was very well engineered auto and that Honda being a well run company would stand behind the product. I now doubt either of those assumptions. My next vehicle might have a better warranty than the meager 3yr 36k offered by Honda. Any tips on how to make the rear deck not bang down on my head or shoulders when it is not in the full upright position. Stronger spring I can buy at home depot? Aftermarket dampening pistons?

My BF and I both have 2007 Civics and his is the SI and mine is the Coupe and we both had a so called rock put a hole in our AC Compressors too. Lucky, we had Warranty and they did cover it for us. I can’t understand when we don’t drive gravel roads how this happens. it isn’t a fluke to happen to both cars in my book, it is a design flaw and I like to know if there is a plate/cover you can install to protect the compressor. I love Honda's and on my 8th one so far in my life time, but if this Civic was my first I wouldnt ever have a Honda!! I have had all kinds of issues with this car, but not enough to call her a

To protect the front condensor (looks like a radiator for the a/c). You can install a mesh to the grille many of which I have done. Just get some metal gutter guard mesh from lowe's, home depot, etc. it's about $1.49, you cut it to shape and put it on the backside of the grille opening. Using black UV zip-ties you attach it to the grille. It will take you some time if you don't take the front bumper off, but it is something you can do with the bumper attached. Air flow isn't reduced, and the front condensor is protected.

If you got a hole in the a/c compressor itself, not sure how that could happen when there is a plastic guard piece that runs along the bottom side of the engine and protects the accessory items like the alternator and compressor. are you sure you don't mean the front condensor?

Thanks for the tip. I will pay attention to see if I am pressing one of the buttons on the key when turning car on.

Also, I just returned from a long trip (1600 miles) and car performed perfectly. I now need to keep on eye on my rear tires to assure the recent fix (replacing rear arms) is the final fix.

Got ~38-39 mpg, drove 70-75 mph, through the East coast mountains, car full of stuff pus my 6 1/2 ft son...the car was a pleasure to drive, including at 80 mph when he drove.

Bought my daughter an 2006 Honda used only had 15000 miles on it and for the first year ran great. Then all of the sudden this June, something started clanking in the engine. Honda replaced the whole engine (took them two weeks), Now there is something wrong with the transmission. (Had it a week supposedly took care of that). We get the car back YESTERDAY and the check engine light is still on! Have not received any paperwork from teh dealership and of course no help with transportation while they have had it the WHOLE month.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA PRODUCT EVER!!

I feel badly for you and your daughter. Too bad you didn't find this site before buying the car. I seem to remember someone saying there were dealers that won't even take the 2006 Civic as a trade in. I've had no real problems with my '07 coupe, but I keep an eye on everything and still come here to get the latest information on it after a little over 2 years of driving it. I some how feel that even so, I won't buy another Honda either.
