Replying to: ellswrt (Jul 05, 2008 3:06 pm) was at normal teperature. I too changed the temp sending unit and the thermostat, to make sure that was not the problem. I found out right away the problem was not fixed yet. I almost bought a new fan clutch, and a new water pump, but lucky me I happened to have a complete extra gauge cluster that I had picked up at junkyard for 150.00dlls, and I decide to change it myself before moving on to the fan or water pump. The problem got fixed, and has not done that anymore. |

hi there, i have a 2001 LTD and when on 2WD, the vehicle is trying to shift automatically to 4WD and hear a grinding noise and then a thud/clunk, the vehicle is still in 2WD, but it is trying to shift to 4WD, when I run it on 4WD, absolutely no issues. Took it to a dealer and he says, about 1500, need to replace some relays /solenoids. I am looking for some help for a DIY and some pointers.. Thanks - Rxr |

Alternator appears to be out. Is this a one belt vehicle or is there a separate belt for the alternator?

Hello, Error codes indicate the sensor 1/bank 1 O2 sensor is causing my check engine light to come on once the engine warms up on my Montero. It appears that sensor is located on the drivers (left side) and I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone may be able to answer. First, how do I determine if it's a California or Federal model sensor (and if I erred on the replacement, would it matter)? - I don't live in California... Next, what's the easiest access to this sensor? It appears that perhaps popping loose the mud flapping material may allow access through the wheel well. Thought I'd look for someone with experience before getting into this. Finally, I'm somewhat inclined to purchase the OEM replacement and was looking at the Bosch replacement from Autozone. They also sell a 'universal' Bosch that is supposed to work fine. Anyone have opinions on this? Any help is greatly appreciated. John

I have a 1999 Montero. It needed a new battery. upon isntalling the new battery, it started stalling when you started, breaked or coasted. It idles at 800rpms then just abruptly jumps to zero and stalls. Also, no check engine lights appear. Any ideas? thanks, Angela
