same old issues we have heard about since it first hit the market..no storage, dont like the top operation, plastic interior...noise.......we have heard this over and over again...and its still out selling the MX-5 here in the US on a monthly basis....this car isnt meant to be a daily driver....for 90% of the owners..its a 2d or 3rd car...and I would be the same holds true for the miata

if you have owned one, driven one for an extended period of time......well, ours is over a year old now...21K on it..and still love the car......enough said....

everyone has their choice in autos...yours is apparently BMWs....I like the brand and quality...but hate the scheduled maintenance costs.....to properly maintain them

But their resale values are lower and that will have an effect on TCO no matter how many cars you have.

See my profile - I own a 2003 BMW 530i and a 2006 MX-5 GT.

that assumes you buy a car for resale factor...and I honestly dont beleive most car buyers do that today..most go to the lot..pick out the model and color they like...and go from there......Im one who drives them till I honestly dont want to put any more money into them for repairs.....96 Bronco with 169K still going...04 Malibu Maxx with 85K, 03 Kia Sorento with 82K..and the 06 Solstice with 21K....and all paid for.....

resale was shown for this one edmunds article....C&D or MT did a long term estimate for resale and showed it to be one of the top five vehicles....but again..I dont put much faith in any auto mag..or Consumer Reports for other than a toaster.....

and I hope you are enjoying your MX-5 as much as we are our Sol.....we compared both, drove both and chose the Solstice.....but as you can see..its not our daily driver..rather are "FUN" car so to speak.....

I was all set to buy a 2007 Solstice. But when I seen that there was no trunk space with the top down that was the end. My wife and I like to go for drives and stay over night and no trunk means that we can not take a suitcase. End of story. Been a GM person all my life but somethngs come first.

we have packed for a five day trip to KC and back from VA in our solstice....you can fit two average size duffels in the back with the top down....you can hang clothes on a hanger behind each seat..using velcor hanger hook......so there is room...you have to be creative....yes you cant get a hard side suit case in with the top up or down...anyone with a roadster...regardless of the model..will probably tell you stories of creative packing.....

well have spent 20 years in the military one learns how to pack and pack only what is needed.....so as I stated before....there is plenty of room to pack in the Sol...just be creative....most of us pack huge suitcases and dont wear half of what be pack to begin with......if you had to haul it yourself.....you would learn that lesson quickly.....

cheers and happy new year every one

I compared both cars and I love the looks of the Solstice but in my comparison, the Mazda wins in all but one category.
I will be Zooming it up pretty soon.
Both are very nice cars and Pontiac did a very good job on the Solstice. It sure is pretty to look at.
I rode bikes for the last six years and this is the most fun I have ever had driving a car.

Just an FYI. I have a two month old Soltice GXP. Ran up a little hard on a parking lot curb and lightly scraped the front fender. A 5 MPH accident The intercooler is damaged ($1100 estimate) and Pontiac has no intercoolers available for purchase anywhere in the United States!! All new parts are going to production. i.e. I can't get my new car repaired and there is no release date for the part. Could be a month. Could be a year. Ironically I bought the car in lieu of a restored TR6 because I thought the Triumpth would be hard to get parts for!
Needless to say nobody informed me when I bought the vehicle that no parts were available to repair it. GM has stuck it to their customers again! Their official position is..... all new parts go on new cars. Translation...you bought it, you paid for it, we don't care if you ever get it fixed.
I will never purchase another car from these SOB's the remainder of my life!
