Your observation is spot on. I bought mine on May 5th. I have 590 miles on the odo. Did a trip to a state park 45 miles away on sunday. I averaged 25.7 mpg with 7 people in van and climate control set at 70F. If you go downhill, the trip computer shows 32 mpg, Uphill it is 23 mpg and on flat roads aboput 26 mpg.

The mileage numbers quoted on the window sticker are spot on and probably a tad conservative I would say!!

okay, I am confused. My gas mileage is quite a bit less than yours (13/26.) Could it be the fuel itself? Where are you high MPG'ers located?_

Hi, reset the the mpg calculator while your travelling and calculate the mpg on a trip that does not involve running the van without moving or at very low speads (ie the parking lot or a to-go window at McDs) and then see what it reads at the end of the trip. The city milage listed on the sticker is only valid (I think) for city speads (35-55) and regular trafic lights (<1 minute), not for stop and go traffic or spiraling up a ramp in a parking deck for 4 or 5 floors. Don't punch the van from a stop, don't tail gate (as it leads to more regular brake and gas use)and don't run the van in a parking space (not that you do any of these but these are good pointers). Try this and let me know how you do.

Mileage on my new Entourage Limited by jsrf

So far, it meets our expectation for gas mileage. Our Entourage has less than 500 miles on it. Took it on a 100 mile, mostly highway trip, starting with a full tank. At our destination, I refilled, and manually calculated the mileage to be a bit over 22 mpg. That's on a new engine, so I suspect it to get better.

A word on the MPG computer. It averages fuel consumption, and when new, the vehicle basically reads 0 mpg. So, you can reset it, and it should show a current average. I own a 2005 Ford Taurus, and when I picked it up, it read about 13 mpg. The computer on it is not resettable, so over the course of about a year, MPG slowly crept up to its current stable 22 mpg around town.

For your own piece of mind, don't use the computer. Just calculate it manually. Start with a full tank, and a trip odometer set to zero. Then check the gallons you buy at your next fill up and divide it into the miles driven. You'll probably be happier.

Yomarymo, reset your computer even during a trip. Do it every 10 minutes. If it still reads low, do it manually (see post 35). Don't know manually? See post 27. But if your trip computer is still not right, I would take it to the dealer and tell them the computer isn't working, not that your getting bad mileage. Good Luck!!

Hey Dave,
I'm understanding the computer better now. It is actually kind of fun monitoring my changing mpg. It has prompted me to be lighter on the gas pedal. We averaged the "old fashioned way," and calculated 29 mpg on a 300 miles round trip, all highway, to LA. Thanks for your input

Yep, I am getting the hang of this thing. It is teaching me to be easier on the gas pedal, too. Also, I often remind myself, "an idoling engine gets 0 mpg." Thanks for your input.

Hi yomarymo:

I get 26 mpg on the highway. Somedays, when my wife uses the van to drop kids at bus stop (when it is raining), the engine is idling for 5-10 minutes and the bus stop is 150 feet from my house, I do get numbers like 12.7 mpg. If you hit a busy street with lots of shopping/malls on a saturday and hit a red light at each intersection, you'd probably get the same 12.7 mpg. That to me is as atypical as cruising at 80 mph with headwinds for 21-22 mpg instead of 65-70 mph for 25-26 mpg.

Avoid high traffic roads, peak hour rush and excessive idling at stop lights, your city mpg will easily creep up to 19-20 mpg.

Thanks for your input. I am starting to get the hang of how the numbers work. Coasting down a hill gets me 90 mpg, but idling and frequent stopping gets me 12. Too bad we can't go downhill all the time!
