Replying to: accelerator (Sep 02, 2008 6:45 am) I estimate I drive 10K/yr, so I guess these will last 25K miles. Maybe more? It should be noted I upped the rubber from 225 to 255 in the rear. That makes a big difference. If you're looking for longevity for a bargain price, I do recommend the Fuzion ZRi. They're surprisingly capable for a sub-$100 tire. If I had a regular S2K, I'd only buy those.

If you adjusted the height of the tire, would your speedo need to be recalibrated or did the overall diameter of the tire remain the same?

Replying to: accelerator (Sep 12, 2008 5:15 am) And yes, I do need to recal my speedo for accurate speed readings. I would need to do that anyway because I have larger rims. The thing is, manufacturers typically underrate their speedos to keep drivers on the right side of the law (otherwise they'd be sued for all the speeding tickets issued to drivers). In the end, I make the assumption I'm right around the target. |

I used to average around 20-ish on a mixed commute with some uphill type driving Recently up to 23/24-ish range with a small commute and mostly flat or downhill driving. Of course using more vtec will lower that figure, and more freeway driving will raise the figure. |

But, after I factor in mounting, balancing, a few puncture repairs each year, and stuff like that, I found that Costco was just as cheap in the long run, and more conventient. Ditto for Sam's Club, I imagine. Discount has been good to me in the past, too. |

I found out recently that two S2000 owners work at a local discount tire company and are quite active on the S2ki.com boards for my local chapter. I'll be visiting with them. I believe I have enough tread to make it through the holidays although I need to get my car inspected (due in november, oops). It my tires dont pass inspection, then I may be getting them sooner.  One final question about the Pole Position tires, are there any profile differences (the space between the wheel and the fender)?

Here are the ones I've used so far as well as my grade for each: Potenza SO2 - F (Lasted 9 months. Average grip. Way too pricy.) Kumho 712 - F (Lasted 6 months. Good grip. Followed road grooves extensively. Cheap!) Hankook Ventus HCII - B+ (Lasted 2 years. Good grip. Excellent road behavior. Kinda pricy.) Fuzion ZRi - A- (Lasted 3+ years (I got rid of them for the sake of track duty). Good grip. Followed road grooves. An excellent day-to-day tire. Not so great on the track. Super cheap!) Falken 512 - A- (Lasted 2 years so far, I expect 5 years. Great grip. Excellent day-to-day tire. Good track tire. Moderately priced.) Again, my S is supercharged and I participate in SCCA, so my experience is more extreme than most. |
