You cannot compare the treadwear ratings between various brands. Treadwear ratings are only comparable between tires of the same brand. For instance, A Kumho tire with a treadwear rating of 140 might outlast a Pirelli with an index of 200 (and probably would).
I run Falken 512s on my S and they last a good long time. Awesome tires, too. I bought a set of 4 (225/40/17 & 255/35/17) for just over $500 at Discount Tire. Prior to that, I tried Fuzion ZRi tires and they lasted a remarkably long time.

I had a set of Faulkens on my 1993 MR2 so many years ago and aside from the nail, they were very good tires. With your Falken 512s, how long is long? I'm hoping to get another 15k+ out of my next rear tires.

To be honest, I'm not sure. To give you a ballpark, the standard Potenzas only lasted 7 months on my car. I had a set of Kumho 712s that lasted a mere 6 months. These have lasted 18 months so far and there's still a lot of tread left.
I estimate I drive 10K/yr, so I guess these will last 25K miles. Maybe more? It should be noted I upped the rubber from 225 to 255 in the rear. That makes a big difference.
If you're looking for longevity for a bargain price, I do recommend the Fuzion ZRi. They're surprisingly capable for a sub-$100 tire. If I had a regular S2K, I'd only buy those.

I'm not necessarily looking for a bargin bin tire (not saying the Fuzion ZRi are), just dont want to spend more than necessary. I have absolutely no complaints from the Potenzas, they lasted me 17k miles (1.5+ years) on the rear and the fronts look like new! Oh, and since this is the gas mileage reports thread, I average 25+ mpg driving 70+ mph on the freeway (just for the safety concerned people who might be reading this, my commute to work is during odd shifts so the freeway is usually very empty).
When you "upped the rubber from 225 to 255" is that number the width of the tire or the height of the sidewall? I can never keep that straight.  If you adjusted the height of the tire, would your speedo need to be recalibrated or did the overall diameter of the tire remain the same?

It's the width in mm, so 255 is 255mm. The second number is the height of the sidewall, but I don't believe it's as simple as the width is to compute. From what I understand, it's a ratio of some sort.
And yes, I do need to recal my speedo for accurate speed readings. I would need to do that anyway because I have larger rims. The thing is, manufacturers typically underrate their speedos to keep drivers on the right side of the law (otherwise they'd be sued for all the speeding tickets issued to drivers). In the end, I make the assumption I'm right around the target.

I used to average around 20-ish on a mixed commute with some uphill type driving
Recently up to 23/24-ish range with a small commute and mostly flat or downhill driving.
Of course using more vtec will lower that figure, and more freeway driving will raise the figure.

My info. may not be timely for Accelerator, but others will replace tires periodically. Just finished upgrading rears to 255/40 R17 (94Y) stock rims, Bridgestone Potenza RE050A, Pole Position tires, which can be rotated right to left on rear. Have fronts upgraded to 225/45 R17 (91Y), stock rims, Bridgestone Potenza RE050A, Pole Position tires. I suggest each S2000 owner pay for annual 4 wheel alignment. My front tires were wearing badly on inside only, due to needed adjustments, but were hard to see wear pattern due to low ground clearance. Gas mileage for my 2006 is between 22 mpg (in town) & 30 mpg (highway, w/cruise at 65 mph). Frequent VTEC episodes will reduce mileage & allow police to advise you whether your odometer is properly adjusted for tire upgrades. Have fun & Happy Holidays.

No, actually, your timing couldn't be better, I'm still on my oem tires and the Pole Position is a new term for me. I'm still on the fence if I should get a slightly softer sidwall but I'll probably stick with the potenzas. Aside from being very slick when cold, they are really good tires for my driving style. Where did you get your tires from, Discount, NTB, tirerack.com?

I priced Pole Position (PP) tires at tirerack.com (add about $45 shipping). Went with Sam's Club & paid about $80-100 more for 4 tires. Sam's Club prices include shipping, shipped to local store in about 4 week days, installed & balanced, provides flat fix guarantee, & provides unlimited balancing/rotation (one side to other side for PP tires), for life of tires, along with mileage warranty which is not really appropriate for 'soft', 'high traction' PP tires for S2000. Fronts get installed today. Local Sam's Club does not provide all wheel alignment. I suggest your local Honda dealer for 4 wheel alignment each year to correct toe in, toe out (my car's prior problem), or improper camber. Or, a reliable local S2000 mechanic with 4 wheel alignment equipment. Good luck, have fun & Happy Holidays.

I've ordered from tirerack before and had no problems whatsoever, and they have great prices. But, after I factor in mounting, balancing, a few puncture repairs each year, and stuff like that, I found that Costco was just as cheap in the long run, and more conventient. Ditto for Sam's Club, I imagine. Discount has been good to me in the past, too.
