My recent round trip to Miami the average on I-95 was 18 to 21 mpg at way above speed limit, two passengers and cargo. Using Premium gas I am very impress . The 1980 Toyota Corona I used to owned gave only 20 mpg . |

I have a 1991 Audi 100 (5 cylinder) and a 1997 Lincoln Town Car (V8). I'm thinking of buying a Toyota 4Runner or a Lexus GX470 (both V8s). What amazes me is this: Both of my current cars get exactly the same highway mileage when I drive them: 24 MPG. Exactly. In fact, when we moved from Seattle to Prescott, AZ we drove both cars in a little parade and we were able to check the mileage at every fillup. Using the same gas, with two different drivers (myself and my wife) we got EXACTLY 24 MPG on both cars. They were both filled with things we were moving and both were very full. Here's what amazes me: 1) Both of the cars get exactly the same mileage. 2) Today, when trying to replace thes cars with something that gets the same or better mileage I have to look at a Hybrid or some weird little 4-cylinder or??? Why can't I buy a big, comfortable car with lots of power and the same efficiency 16 and 10 years later?? ARe cars getting worse? |
