A national personal finance magazine is looking to interview consumers who own a car which has cylinder deactivation technology and is happy/unhappy with the fuel mileage it receives. Please send an e-mail to ctalati Thanks, Chintan Talati Corporate Communications Edmunds.com |

| I recently purchased a new Charger SXT. Only have 6000 miles on it. Have had intermittent problems with starting the car, but dealer or Dodge will not do anything to fix it. When it doesn't start then they'll know what to fix, Until then I'm SOL. Anybody else seen a similar problem??? | |

Looking into a Charger R/T or SRT8. Already drive a 500 hp GTO so performance is a must. Test drove the R/T and was not impressed at all. Would the SRT8 come closer to making me happy for a daily driver? Also, all this MPG talk has me really concerned now. The LAST thing I need is a gas guzzler........ JET |

Replying to: batista (Jun 24, 2006 9:24 pm) Thank you for taking the time to reply, and please excuse my long absence. The issue of mileage versus final drive ratio is a tricky one. If an engine is cammed to be most efficient in the lower rpm ranges, you would be completely correct. If, however, the engine is more efficient in the top end (as in the 5.7 litre semi-hemi v-8), it's entirely possible that a lower (mechanically, higher numerically) gear might actually help not only mileage, but also top end. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but I assure you that there is substance to this argument. My Daytona is a dog in the low to medium speeds, but will deliver accelleration that simply amazes me (not easy to do) at 120 mph. I was tangling with a Carrera at the Palm Beach Raceway last week, and when we hit it from about 65-75 mph, he would walk me. At one point, we were already moving at about 120, and both hit it. To my astonishment, my Charger simply catapulted past the Carrera, and left me as slack-jawed as was the Porsche jock. Go figure. I AM A PROFESSIONAL DRIVER WHO SUGGESTS THAT ALL MOTORISTS RESPECT POSTED SPEED LIMITS, AND NOT ATTEMPT THE ACTIONS DESCRIBED IN MY POST OUTSIDE OF A SANCTIONED RACE TRACK Thanks again! : ) Used2bFast |
