I have a 2001 Aero sedan, manual transmission. 80K miles, routinely maintained. If I nurse the car a bit I can get 25 mpg all in, and that's probably 70% city driving. Nice thing about the manual is that I can engage the clutch down even the most modest of hills which--at least in other cars I've owned with a live MPG meter--pretty much pegs it at 99+ mpg while hurdling down hills in neutral. These little bursts with the car out of gear and the RPMs floating just below 1000 really seem to help boost fuel economy quite a bit. Not a lot of fun, really. But a way for me to get 25-26 mpg in mostly city driving. On proper highway trips, I find it easy to get 30-31 mpg if I keep it under 75 mph, and that's garage to destination, not just on the highway. |
