Same as the previous message, bought an '08 Rio5 LX w/ 5 spd, clocked in over 3800 on the odometer already, no frills basic car. Do about the same amount of driving 70/30 (hwy/city) because of work, about 340 miles a week. Even though its a small tank, 11.9 gal. - averaging 350 - 370 miles per tankful. Pretty happy with the numbers, I'm sure it will only get better. Not bad for a "puddle-jumper".

there are several factors that govern your city mileage.. First off, if you have an automatic transmission, it doesnt shift into the higher(od) gear until you reach 38miles per hour, keeping that in mind, if your always at 25-35 you never reach the optimum operating rpm range for fuel effeciency.(watch your rpms, thats the tachometer.) If you have a 5 speed tranny, you must be shifting it incorrectly, maybe winding the engine up to hi, before you shift from , 1st to 2nd, to third etc..check also your tire pressure make sure its at the manufactors specs. I have a 2008 Rio with automatic tranny and consistantly been getting high 20s city and mid 30s hiway,, remember for every 5miles per hour over 60 miles perhour, you get app 5-10% lower fuel economy, that being said, If you drive at 75 mph, youll probably only get 28 miles on the hiway, If you take it down to 60 mph, youll probably end up getting around low 30s.

Just bought a new 2008 Base Rio.
Checked the milage this morning. 30mpg, mostly highway. mostly 70 mph
The overdrive (5th gear in my standard transmission) is geared too low. I'm tach'ing 3500 rpm at 70 mph. Should be between 2500 rpm and 3000 rpm.
I don't see how I will ever get 38 mpg out of this ride?
On the other hand, the Rio has much more torque with the 1.6L I4 than my 95 civic 1.5L I4.

Yea MY automatic 08 Kia is running about 2600 rpms 70 mph.. the factory sticker even suggests that the manual is 3 miles a gallon thirstier than the automatic in hiway mileage..but you should get upper 20s in city,, I get almost 30 mpgs city

Hi,
Could you please tell me where you got the turbo from? I have an '03 Rio and would like to speed it up.
Thanks much.

Everything for the turbo was custom fabricated in my garage.

Just made a run up north, 5 hours running at 65-75mph, I got 38 mpg. In 60/40 highway/city I'm consistently hitting 35mpg. Tracking it over the last couple of months it's been a steady but gradual improvement.
'08 Rio5
Manual transmission.

I posted in the other category about mpg. I am getting, well, the other day I got 45 mpg, filling up after using 2.8 gallons. I fill up before I go below 3/4 of a tank, that way, you get better mileage. I thought I was going nuts, doing the figuring wrong, but hey, it is getting that much. A few days ago I got 39 mpg. It goes from 38-45 at times. And yes, I am filling it up each and everytime. If I wait till a half tank, I only get about 36 mpg. I stop more for gasoline, but for three or four up to 7 more mpg, I will stop everyday. I spend about 55 dollars a month going one hundred miles back and forth to work. Some of you nuts, and I mean that nicely, are spending that in one fill up. Try filling up more often and take note of what you are getting mpg. It works, really. 5 speed, base model, no air, never liked it, too good to pass up.
