Ok I have read several of the posts on liftgate problems and couldn't find mine. When I hit the botton or use my key the locks turn but do not totally disengage. I can't close my glass panel because the bottom of the gate thinks it is already closed. I can't get it to open completely either, I tried turning the knobs on either side, any other suggestions. I am leaving for a dog show in the morning and can't load my dogs with my gate up!!! Just started this afternoon. BTW when I pull the handle nothing happens.

That I think is a tough one, there is a procedure I think to get it un-stick, but its complicated I believe. Can you push on tailgate (like you were closing it, only a bit harder) and try to see if that gets it working again.

Have you tried asking your question in the main Pontiac Aztek discussion?

Not sure if you found your answer to this or not, or if still a problem for you because your post is from June 06 but I wanted to let you know this is a common issue.
Both my Mother and myself own an Aztek and both had/have the same problem. She had hers fixed under her warranty as she had a 03' but I've never taken mine in. I just and when it doesn't work.

You should post this in Pacifica forum to see if others have had this problem. In general I think this perhaps could be from something being caught when it was last closed (carpet or something) or perhaps is wasn't closed quite tight enough, and maybe a gentle (don't dent it) push to close it further might help.

You should post this in Pacifica forum
The Chrysler Pacifica: Problems & Solutions discussion would be a good one to post in, Cstage.

I don't have any warranty on my 2001 Aztek, but my tailgate refuses to open as well. I brought it to a place and it took 4 guys to get it to open. They unscrewed the top arms that extend when it opens and were able to open the top part. The lower half was a nightmare, and took them 2 hrs just to get it open. Now I have the inside plastic molding that covers the tailgate and wires cracked and ripped off and it still isn't fixed. Can ANYONE PLEASE help me on this. I already have to have the rear suspension knuckles replaced, so this is becoming an unhappy car to have as much as I like it.

OUCH I assume this is not a pontic (or other GM dealer). What happened initialy, no noise or release when using key fob or swithe inside cabin, or you could hear click but it wouldn't open? ( I know there is a correct way to get into tailgate without breaking thing, I'll see if I can find it)
Hhmm seems a trim removal tool would have allowed getting under the panel from inside and gently prying would have allowed release of the retaining clips. Panel would still be held on by 2 screws for handle, and 2 hidden ones under weatherstrip on sides, but panel would still open a bit.
For now, the problem may be with lock actuators (one for each side), something with wiring perhaps.

It doesnt make any noise when I try to open it from th ekey fob or cabin. It just wouldnt open one day, defeating the whole purpose of why I bought it(camping edition AWD). I dont have a million dollars to fix this thing, especially after I have to fix the rear suspension already.
