Leak In Trunk 97 Civic by navanodg
Dec 22, 2006 (2:46 pm)

I have a 1997 civic DX, This is the second car I have had leaking problems with. There was standing water in the trunk as well as under the back seat. I think the water under the seat was caused by sloshing water which came from the trunk because after I took the plug out from the low point in the trunk the water under the seat wasn't an issue anymore. Anyways taking out the plug was only suppose to be a temp solution because the water leak is still causing mildew and such, not to mention my trunk is practically unusable because anything back there gets soaks. I am having a really hard time finding the leak but I am fairly certain that it is coming in from the driver’s side wall of my trunk, or at least running along the top and ending up dripping down the driver’s side wall. Any suggestions? Maybe I have a bad weld or something, the seal looks good but I guess I could be wrong? Any info is appreciated.

Thanks
Navanod

The floor in the back seat is damp, I haven’t really looked into that thinking maybe they are somewhat related but I’m probably wrong about that because the dampness is still there after the plug was taken out of the trunk. Any input on that would also be helpful.

Mice in Honda 2006 by nosarb

Make sure when your Honda dealer removes mice/nests/ feces, etc. from heating/ air conditioning areas that they do it correctly.
It is my understanding that areas must be disinfected and not just vacuumed out. A check of government rules guiding removal of hazardous material will tell you what is requried. This nasty stuff can make you sick.

Its seems like everyone has the same problem. I have a 06 civic that just broke 30k and I took it to the dealer for vibration. everything was rattling in my car also. they rotated the tires and sent me on my way. but the vibration was still there. i took it to farm and fleet and they took one look at what were the rear tires and told me i had broken belts in my tires and i needed new ones. i don't yet know what the warranty is on the tires, but 30k is a little low for needing new tires. i have read some other threads and a lot of people seem to have this problem and it is only with the rear tires. seems like an alignment or suspension problem. if anyone checks their tires after reading this let me know if you have the same problem. I am going to the dealership tommorrow to let them have it and if they don't replace them for free i will be writing a lot of letters to honda.

Hi,

I have a Civic 06. I hear some rattling sound from the passenger side (when it is empty), but not when someone is sitting there. The sound is not very loud, but has started to bother me a lot of late...

I've also had rear tire problem. Dealer said one rear wheel was not in alignment when car was made. They said they fixed alignment and replaced tire as it was torn to shreds.
Other back tire then started going bad. Dealer would not stand behind second back tire. They said first bad back tire caused second back tire to go bad. Took car to another dealer and they balanced all tires and that one back tire was unbalanced. Go figure. Someone is jerking on my chain. Now I'm going to be stuck buying new tires not knowing if it is a tire problem or not. I've got the feeling I'm going to be buying new tires every 30,000 miles on this car. Wife thinks car is a lemon.

Some of your issues are simply limitations of physics:

Below 2000 RPM, a little 4 cyl. engine will provide very little power. If you're driving a manual, you should probably be doing most of your driving at 2000+. If you've ever looked at a torque/hp graph of any engine, you'll see that there's not much going on down there.

Depending on your age and profession, you might actually have better hearing than your mechanic. Mechanics generally work in high-noise environments and their hearing suffers because of it. Also, the younger you are, the better you can hear. Off-topic, but a good illustration of this is the "Teen-Buzz" ringtone that's becoming pretty popular. High frequency noises that young kids can pick up, but not older folks.

The rear de-frost-er is designed for removing frost, not condensation. Melting a thin layer of frost requires much less energy than evaporating natural condensation. It might not seem like it, but when frost forms, there's actually very little there.

Civic 07 - Gray Interior by jelklan

So we were test driving a Honda 07 Civic LX coupe the other day, and the better half suggests that the gray interior looks cheap and like it's fall apart quickly. It's not something that would have occurred to me on my own, but now that she mentions it, it seems like a legitimate concern. How durable have the interiors been for y'all? Do they get really dirty and show stains? Do they get worn very quickly? Thanks a lot for your help in advance.

I too have this exact problem (rattling sound from the passenger seat). Have you had any luck fixing this? Can you please let me know. Thanks

Hello,

Got it sorted, I guess it was due to foot mat.

Hi,

I poked around under the seat and it seems to be coming from the area where the seat foam meets the seat metal hardware. I dont think it's the foot mat.

I'll prob remove the seat and take a closer look.

ps, my problem goes away from time to time.
