2006 Civic Hybrid Moonroof? by rabergnc

I just purchased a 2006 Civic Hybrid. Does anyone know if an aftermarket moonroof can be safely installed in this car? The local shop which installs them for the dealer factory-installed option on other Hondas says he can do it on the Hybrid. With the new body design, will this be problematic? I have searched the forums and seen nothing about the 2006 models. Are there reasons not to install a moonroof beyond the potential mileage hit?

Thanks for opinions and advice.

Well, the Civic EX comes with a moonroof and is the same bodystyle, so I don't see why there'd be a problem installing one on the Hybrid.

I was at Maine Mall Honda (South Portland, ME) yesterday, and they had for sale an '06 Civic Hybrid with an aftermarket moonroof. A company in the Portland area does them for many area car dealers. There's absolutely no reason why a moonroof can't be done aftermarket on the '06 Civic Hybrid. The only possible drawback would be a very small decrease in MPG when the moonroof is open.

I bought my civic hybrid in January. I asked about getting a moonroof and the sales guy told me if I did it would void the warranty.

Is your sales guy familiar with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act?

If a non-Honda made and not-Honda installed moonroof leaked, destroying your interior, would Honda be legally obligated to replace the interior for free?

If your Honda engine failed while under warranty (and you didn't abuse it and followed the correct maintenance schedule), does an aftermarket moonroof void the engine warranty?

No, the roof leaked.

This is a bit of an unknown. What if the moonroof was electrically operated? That could be claimed as interference with the complex hybrid electric system.

I agree that a manually operated moonroof would almost certainly not void the engine warranty.

I just bought a 08 HCH and the dealer had already installed the moonroof.
