I went to the AutoShow in Baltimore in February and fell in love with this crossover. Have you heard of United Buying Service (ubs4cars.com)? They will give you a certificate for almost any car, tell you which dealership to go to and you are supposed to get a cheaper price than the MSRP. Now I think it's only in MD,DC,VA, but there may be other types of companies out there...and it's free. Check with your credit unions or financial institutions...you'd be surprised!

There was a downside to my experience with the dealer they listed...they didn't want to give me anything decent off the RX. They told me they would give $1,200 off $47k...I told them um, that's not a deal. They said the vehicle just came out and they aren't discounting the 2010, however, the discounts for the 2009 RX350 ranged from $9600 to $9800 off their MSRP. I told them they have the wrong person on the wrong day... I walked out.

The good news, I contacted a different Lexus dealer, also in Virgina and I told the salesperson what I wanted, she quoted the MSRP at $47,091 but will sell for $44,900. I told her all I had was a check in hand for $45,000 and her new sales manager agreed to sell it to me for $40,900 (with tax, tags, title) = $45,000. I was told the car would be there on Saturday...so I'll post again once I get it and let you know if they kept their word. This is without the UBS certificate... bottom line, if the dealership is hungry for the sale, they will do whatever they need to do to get you in the car!

Hey my3grlz,
Good luck - that would be a fantastic deal if they keep their word! What dealer is it? If it doesn't work out, I have always gotten a good price from the Internet person at Len Stoler Lexus in Owings Mills, MD (near Baltimore). Ask for an email quote - it should be competitive.

Please confirm-are you saying you expect to purchase a new 2010 RX for $40900 (plus tax, title, etc) that lists for $47091. Local dealers will give $2-3000 off.

Two dealers have told me they are working on about a $5000 markup from invoice.I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there Md_Outback,

That's what I was told... The proof will be after my appointment with them on Saturday. I'm a firm believer that dealerships can do whatever it is they want. You can be that out of 10 carbuyers, only 3 have done the research to get a good deal. Many others will believe what they ask for and think $500 -$1000 is all they can received. Not me! I told them I have cash in hand (certified check that is) for $45,000. The salesperson said her manager will reduce the price to get me out the door at $45,000. They would lower it to $40,900 (or $41,900) to get me out the door at $45,000 (6% taxes, and whatever tags and title costs).

Matador Red, Parchment Leather: Navigation Pkg with add't options (Nav, premium, comfort, tow prep, 12-spk 6-disc, remote engine starter) ~ MSRP $47,091..

I'll post on Saturday on if they were true to their word or not. I'll keep you posted.

Will be interesting.

Please let us know the actual MSRP and true discount before all fees.

Looking forward to hearing from you, as I am sure you are looking forward to purchasing the car at the price you indicated.

I too am interested, I have the hybrid model on order. I have it on order from two dealers who are about 50 miles apart-either side of where i live--and I buy it from whoever gives me the best deal.

That will be a deal of the year so far if you can pull it off. I'm going to deploy the same tactic next time I shop for a car or I'll hire you to negotiate for me.

Once you succeed getting your car, would you mind listing which options(codes, if you can) you got? Thanks and good luck!

Hi all, Here's the update. The old "bait and hook" was in true form today. I went to the dealer, to pick up the RX that I was told was in and would be sold to me for $45K out the door. When I sat down, my salesperson said ~ "Oh, the one you wanted is at the port and will be here by Tuesday. Sorry, I thought the one you wanted was already here, however, we can still complete the deal as approved". A new car sales manager comes over and we discuss the price. He says, "Look, in order for you to get the price we agreed upon I will have to charge you less than what we brought the car for". I said if you want the sale you'd honor your word. Long story short, he was trying to charge me an additional $1,000 ($46K). I wasn't having that. He squirmed and tried to get my business saying this would be a one-of-a kind, first-time deal. We went back and forward for about 30 minutes with a purchase order handwritten by my salesperson that showed $42,090 + taxes, tags, title and fees....it totaled $45,009. He wasn't allowing it to move any further, and there was no deal!

So, no new car for me!!!! At least not this week. I told them, my offer is firm ~ and he said, "You're willing to pass up a Lexus because of $1,000"? I countered with, no, you're willing to pass up selling one because of $1,000.

I was looking forward to learning what happened. Thank you for sharing What was the MSRP of the car they switched you to. I think, aside from holdback, the dealers are working on round $5000 more or less. Maybe tell them the car that is coming in Tuesday you will take for the $45,000. I am surprised that Lexus would bait and switch.I wonder if "your" car was scheduled to be available on Sat.

Please continue to keep us informed and thanks again.

Hello,

You must be really disappointed, you went to pick up your new car but the sales person comes and tells you that this is not the car, next thing you know, they're trying to charge you an additional $1000.

Whats your plan now? Going to go to another dealer?

Btw, what color did you choose?
