Tire & Wheel Warranty and Door Ding Protection by sorrento77

My new UL will be delivered some time this week. I am trying to determine whether or not to purchase the tire/wheel warranty (5 yr, unlimited miles) and Paintless Dent Repair Service (3 year). Looking for input on whether or not either is worth it. I am not purchasing the extended warranty at this time.

How much is the wheel deal? What does it cover? Is it full replacement cost of the tire or prorated like most tire warranties which come with the car? Do you really expect to damage a wheel that you would need a warranty?

Never heard of a "dent repair service" warranty but then again, warranty coverage is only limited by the imagination of those pushing them. How much is it?

Personally, I think extended warranties are a waste of money especially on a quality Japanese car whether it's Toyota/Nissan/Honda or their expensive versions, unless you plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off. When I told my Lexus dealer I didn't want an extended warranty, he still pushed it and dropped the price from around $1400 to an amazing "deal" of $750 or so. Goes to show the $ they make on them even if you do get some of it back if the car is traded before the warranty period expires.

They especially like to push it on people who can't say "no".

The tire and wheel coverage is $429 for 5 years unlimited. It covers the car against any road hazards such as metal, nails, potholes, glass, etc. Also receive 24 roadside service for any tire related emergencies. I know two Lexus owners who had to get a tire replaced within 6 months of purchasing their vehicles. One had purchased the tire warranty. The other had not and the replacement was slightly over $400.

The dent repair service is $399 for 3 years unlimited. Covers the repair of any door dings and small dents caused by debris.

Thus far, I have not been pushed into any additional purchases.

Agreed. Most of these "service contracts" violate a basic rule of casualty insurance: don't pay to protect yourself from a loss that you could absorb on your own.

If I can afford to spend $35K+ on a luxury car, shelling out a few hundred bucks once or twice a decade to replace a wheel shouldn't be a problem for me.

Given that IIRC the average repair cost for paintless dent repair runs about $60 (give or take a few dollars, depending on complexity of repair)--even then, many auto insurance companies might even cover that w/o penalty to your insurance premium--you'd have to incur 7 ding repairs in order to recoup your "investment". Also--what does the fine print say regarding what kinds of "dents" they'll repair under the dent repair warranty? Does it cover any and all dents, no matter how severe/deep the dent may be, and/or if any paint got chipped/scraped away? I ask because most paintless dent repair methods cannot perfectly repair really deep dents.

Thanks for all of the input. You are right the Door Ding Protection is not worth it. Also, if I need a tire replaced, I probably would not go to Lexus to have it done.

Ok, now my dealer is willing to go down $1600 to sell me the ES for 39.1K. This is with Prem Plus option.
