Good Luck. You sound just like the service manager. Come on down to Atlanta and you can test drive mine. We don't have anything against Toyota. We have owned several, and still also have a 2003 Highlander. Traded in a WONDERFUL 2004 Camry on this...what a mistake. You go right- a- head and buy one, the sky isn't falling. In fact I will sell you our 2007 Camry real cheap!

I agree in this as well. All vehicles are becoming much more complex technically. This has occurred mainly over the last 5 years so I expect there to be a 'learning curve' by all.

The carpet issue is a safety recall (!! ) so it's free of charge.

right, but if i'm not mistaken, factory mats in the vehicle are an option which you had to pay for when purchasing the vehicle.

i think you are right about the increasing complexity introduction over the past few years. luckily i can still identify a few pieces / parts in the engine compartment - even change my own oil if so inclined.

i can see a future where we'll be at the mercy of some computer hackers to reverse engineer the ECU/TCM/ABS/VSC software to tell us what the heck these things have been designed to do when something doesn't appear to work properly as we would expect. the manufacturer isn't going to release intellectual property for all to consume.

i also sense, and I could be wrong about this, there's probably some good OEM engineers on the inside of the company (toyota or other) who don't have access to the ECU/TCM firmware source code...

i'm in an analog industry which is heavily controls based and i see this sort of compartmentalization of knowlege in the context of increasing complexity and integration becomming more and more pervasive.

I think it was carpet of the car that was faulty, no extra charge for that. If I remember correctly, the carpet was blocking the accelerator pedal in some cases, so they replaced the carpet. I think they changed the same thing for prius too.

ilovecars1, i think you are correct. it was retaining clips on the front carpeting, not mats. my mistake. thanks.

Below is a actual email that I received from Toyota regarding my camry. Imaging that I am trying to merge into freeway traffic with a truck barreling down the lane I have to remember slowly and gradually depress my accelator pedal???

"The poor response you described typically surfaces either when the accelerator is depressed fully to the floor or when depressed an aggressive manner. The newer version of the Camry has transitioned from a manual throttle linkage to an electronic throttle control system. The electronic throttle control monitors the everyday driving habits of the operator and then tailors itself to make the most efficient gearshifts. On rare occasions when the operator fully depresses the pedal or depresses the pedal in an aggressive manner, the system may experience a delay in determining how to make the optimal gearshift.

At this time Toyota has no plans to make changes to the shift characteristics of the transmission. To minimize this condition, we recommend trying a firm yet gradual application of the accelerator.

kdhspyder, djarmes, and user777. The three of you have consistently criticized everyone who has
posted a valid defect or problem with their Camry. I'm not sure which phase of grief you are
experiencing by the demise of Toyota's quality control rating. I think it is a combination of denial
and anger judging by the tone and subject matter you write. Maybe it is because you post your
messages so early in the morning after your night shift at the Toyota plant.

I do not think that message is from Toyota. Although he or she is correct about throttle movement no mention was made about stompping on the gas to pass on the highway.
What address did they give you? The only address the public has is the 1-800 number. I like the way they sign the letter "Toyota Customer Experience" I sure have an experience dealing with them!!

Did you expand the headers on the email and see what sources the email had?
Keep the original copy and check those headers.

How do I do that with yahoo mail? I send the question via toyata website. It is very unlike that someone is trying to sabotage toyota to intercept my message and then response a bogus email to me. I can forward it to you if I am able to get hold of your email. Got your email address from your bio. Check your mail
