Replying to: rockylee (Sep 03, 2006 4:37 pm) about the Astra now: EUROPE: 5-Door Astra: 1.8L Gas Engine 140HP - starts at 12.626E MSRP (about $19.000 CAD) *Cosmo is 14.126E ($22.000 CAD)* 5-Door Astra: 2.0L Gas Turbo 170CP/200CP - 15.635E/18.786E ($23.000 CAD/$28.000 CAD). $1 USD = $1.2 CAD The 3-Door is roughly as expensive as the 5-Door. Still, Saturn can use NA GM engines, so the price will probably drop by about $1k (more or less). Hopefully that will be it, but GM is going to cheapen the interior as they always do (it has to be a GM right?). If we get the Astra made in Brazil (or somewhere around there - it's the same as the European one, just that it's called a Chevy Astra) IT'S OKAY, JUST DON'T CHANGE A THING... PLEASE GM! The Brazilian Astra is probably cheaper, so it will fit the American buyer better than the Euro made car. |

I'm sure most of you that have been following the Astra have seen the photos of the 4 door sedan GM put together for the USA. It was shown in Turkey. Basically it is a slightly restyled version of the last generation Astra. Think Chevy Cobalt with a different rear quarter panel treatment and Aura like headlights. I understand they needed a 4 door sedan for the US market but boy this is not what I expected! Very conservative styling. Oh well, As long as they still bring the 3 and 5 door hatch to the USA untouched I'm buying. here is the car in testing. It will be the Brazilian market Chevy Vectra

I have been glancing over the responses and I for one am excited about this new Astra. I think it is going to ba a top seller in its class. Much nicer than that dorky Civic or Mazda whatever its called. This is just another block in the wall that is going to separate the real car enthusiasts and the posuers from importland. People are going to flock to the Saturn dealers to get their hands on one of these. I predict serious declines in sales of the competition.

Replying to: gmrules1 (Jan 07, 2007 6:55 pm) I`d like to see if Ford will finally decide to bring the Euro Focus over... probably not though as they already made another facelift for the `08 model... eh... well Despite interest in the new 2008 Saturn Astra, Automtotive News says that GM plans to import only 20,000 to 40,000 of the vehicles each year from Europe. Those figures will go up once GM retools a plant in North America to build the car. Saturn sold more than 100,000 IONs in 2005. just saw that on the net... I guess it`s get them first before they start producing them in the States... |

Saturn just announced that we`ll just get the 1.8l inline 4 with 140hp, at least for a start. Prices should start around $16,000 for the Astra when it goes on sale this fall. 3 and 5 door config, no 4 door at the moment. all the best vd |
