You sure about that?

EU's crash ratings are pretty rigorous. I beleive it is the frame, not the exterior sheet metal (or here the glass) that protects from front and side impacts.

I would take a pass on that, but hope they offer most of the goodies as options here.

They can sell more than 40,000 of these (way more, if it were priced like the Ion). Even at higher-than-Ion prices, I'd buy it over a Rabbit/Golf any day of the week.

wow, that's just makes the windshield replacement more expensive. I'm gonna go to opel's website and check out this dimming on demand technology.

I wouldn't want to have a rollover accident in this car

But considering that GM already has Chevy and Pontiac to cover high volume low cost cars; they could finally be moving Saturn into the entry level luxury category.

I think this is a fantastic move because generation X, Y and beyond don't identify with Buick. So, the better thing to do (IMO) would be to eventually axe Buick if it never quite makes a comeback, and position Saturn to take it's place for current generations that believe Buick is far too old for them.

This could explain why the cost of the vehicle would increase so much over the ION.

I hope they can do that without Saturn having the same fate as Oldsmobile.

EU offset crash standards are tougher than US standards from what I have read. Many times US made cars and vans that sell in Europe do very poorly in their tests.

Their side impact test might not be as tough though, since the vehicles threatening to broadside you are lower and lighter.

They do seem more likely to give low scores, kind of like their school grades. A car here in the US has to be really, really bad to get one star.

Are they gonna bring this here as a 3 door(hatch)? I hope so!

I took a look around the net, and this shows a 5 door Opel Astra(next "ION?").
http://www.jalopnik.com/cars/new-cars/

about 1/2 way down the page is the news article/photo.

Why build another 5 door?

everyone has one. Make Saturn stand out more? Make a 3 door.
This is why we are "forced" towards Scion(tC, very nice car), or maybe a few others that have 3 door hatches.
We like hatches, but not "wagons".
Just a personal preference.
Reminds us of the late 60's and 1970's station wagons(they may call them sport wagons, or whatever...but they are just redesigned station wagons, to us, anyways, at our homestead, no matter what company makes them).

I guess we can hope for a 3 door.

about the deal "older people will buya luxury sport car over economy sport"...No, not here.
Our $$$ goes to our property/home. Cars? If it's over 20K, No Way.

tC. Good enough. 17,199(with automatic, sunroof, cruise,mp3/cd/am/fm/160watt stereo, reclinging rear seats,
hatch,abs,etc).

I will serious consider one of these if they do not "tweak" them too much, and it is a 3 door(hatch), or at least offer a 3 door variation. Or if they design (next generation?) 5 door car to look say like the GT Elantra or Reno(both 5 doors, that appear as sedans, until ya get up close, and see the hatch).

Have a good one.

I would guess we will get both 3 and 5 door versions. The Ion was available as a 4 door and Saturn also offered a coupe based on the Ion.
