Hey gonewtoncards, I still haven't taken my car back to the dealer to get the vibrating gear shift checked out. I can't go during the week so I'd have to use a Saturday to sit at the dealer while they check it out, and after the last experience where I wasted two hours and they balanced the tires instead, saying that was the problem (which it clearly was not), I hesitate to deal with that dealership ever again.
Since I figure it's not a threat to the car itself, nor to me, I'm waiting 'til I go in for my next oil change, which is coming up soon. I'll certainly post the results of my visit (I will be trying a different dealer, that's for sure).
#255 of 263 Honda Fit general noise

Maybe it's me but.......I have been researching the Fit and went for a test drive today. I can't remember the last time that I've been in a car that was so noisey---maybe my Volkswagen Beetle in high school. On the highway you could hear and almost feel every expansion crack, hear the difference in every road surface texture as it changed, etc. Not even my (small) Porsche 911 was so conspicuously annoying in this regard. Was it just me? Anyone have experience with "insulation" applied to the bottom? Comments? Thanks.

Hi anahita61 I'm new on here. First of all I'm from London England and I just had my Honda Jazz (2003) serviced today and they spent 9 hrs still cannot fix the problem which exactly same as yours. All the gears working fine except 5th!!! Everytime I go down the motorway, once in 5th gear and speed reaching 60mph - 1) the buzzing noise comes on and I put my hand slightly and gently push the gear stick towards top right it stops! 2) it vibrates as well now spreaded to 2nd gear...its like a virus
BUT hand off, noise comes back! Very annoying indeed and have to put music on loudly plus my terrble screaming style singing to cover the noise
. Anyhow, the technician serviced my car tried 3 time still not helping, he finally slapped on some white gluish-like lubricant into the gear (the gear linkage I believe) as i took the plastic cover off when i get home and i saw the grease!!!
I drove it for an hour on highways AND in town, try to run it the gear hopefully the grease will gradually melts into the stiff part (as far as I concern there aint much ppl have the spot on solution yet) but using the grease its used by alot of ppl out there to stop this problem only 50-60% cases successful!
I will keep it running around in next couple of days to see whats happening, cuz the noises seem lowered at some point but louder again. So i cant tell u whats next until then. Let me know if u have ur fixed.
Good luck!

Hi dark_angel, I'm really late seeing your comment, but I'm headed to Honda tomorrow, to a different dealer to get it looked it. I'm going in for an oil change, but while it's still under warranty I thought I'd get them to see if they can fix it. It's really annoying, but hopefully it's not damaging. I, too, have to play music loud to mask the sound of it. It's only when I'm accelerating in 5th gear after a bit of travel at highway speeds. The grease doesn't sound good, so I hope they don't try that with mine. Thanks for your comment.

Yo buddy! Its ok, i got crashed into another day in the roundabout by a truck so the car is in the honda dealership for repairs at the moment. Spke to the mechanics and he said looks like the bearing is on the way out and its gonna cost me around £450 to change them (ouch!) but at least i got the repairs done for free as the other side is liabled to pay for it!
They gave me this brand new Jazz but i still prefer mine for some reasons. Anyhow i'll keep it til next year from now. They've also tried them grease method, it didnt work on mine. Dont worry they use these industrial grease which wont damage your car but it stinks and digusting, looks like someone's sick.
Its a mystery still but hope they will have a good look at my car and find out whats wrong with it. Thanks for replying and good luck buddy! Have a nice summer btw
ciao~

I have a 08 Honda Fit Sport with Dashboard Rattles and Clicks. Local Honda dealer tells me that the dashboard is held on with pins on the windshield side of the dash. The only way that they can fix this is to completely remove the dash and put felt around the pins. They don't advise removing the dash. I guess they expect that people should just put up with this major annoyance. Maybe if we find enough people with the same problem, we can start a class action suit and then we will get some results. As you mentioned the suspension does not absorb bumps very well and this is a contributing factor for this problem. I have only 8500 miles on my Fit and its been doing this since about the 5000 mile mark. I also, had a clutch shudder/chatter problem which was most noticeable when the car was cold. The dealer contacted the Honda Tech Rep and they were told to replace the clutch disc, pressure plate and throw-out bearing. They did and covered under the original warranty. Clutch shudder/chatter gone for now. Hope it doesn't come back in a few thousand miles. Maybe I should sell it before it happens again. And the dashboard rattles and clicking gets worse. My advice to all having problems with their Fit would be to keep a journal of dates, problems that service tried to fix, and names of the people at service that you dealt with. ANYONE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEM PLEASE CONTACT ME. THANKS

My wife and I recently purchased a 2010 Honda Fit Sport. The dashboard started rattling around the 5000 mile mark on the odometer. This is really annoying and I traded in my beloved (yet increasingly troubled) 2006 Scion for this car. We own a 1999 Honda Civic with over 300,000 miles on it and Consumer Reports consistently gives high marks to the Honda Fit so that is why we bought it. I like the Fit but the dashboard rattle is beginning to drive me insane. I've read in various forums online that there are many potential causes of the rattle. Some have been fixed and some haven't. Fortunately, I live near a independent mechanic that only works on Honda automobiles and I will have him take a look at the dashboard rattle next time the car is due for an oil change. My wife and I were very excited about this car but are now a bit disappointed. The cruise control is another issue. When pulling inclines (steep or not steep) the cruise control on the Fit revs up the engine to 4 to 4.5 on the tachometer. Does anybody in the United States make/sell a decent, affordable car anymore?

Noises can really get into your head once you notice them, can't they? And I agree with you that cruise control on non-manual transmission cars drives me crazy. One of the reasons we've had nothing but sticks since 1979!

When I use cruise on the highway, I keep it in Sport mode and leave it in 5th gear. Yes, it will downshift and rev up on bigger hills, but not as quick as compared to leaving it in Auto mode.
#263 of 263 2009-10 Road Noise/Tire Noise

Hi. I'm looking to sell my 2007 Fit Sport to upgrade to the 2010 or 2011 Honda Fit Sport. I'm reading the reviews and seeing a lot of "road noise/tire noise" complaints and the DB/70mph rating is actually a bit higher for the 2009 model compared to the 2007. To the current '09-10 owners, is the road noise/tire noise really that bad/noticeable driving on the highway?
