I would go with red or another bright color since this is a small car and you want to be seen easily. Of course I live in the PNW where the gray makes things blend into a mash. My brother had his sky blue truck hit about 4 times from behind over a few years time.

Len:

I'm sure more of the Orange Fits will show up in your home town. They just seem like a natural choice for some budget conscious or fun loving OSU Fan.

I read your reply literally minutes after agreeing to buy a Black Fit base model. Sorry, but I won't be helping get more Orange cars out on the road. I don't drive my Orange bug any more and now I've added one more to the millions of black cars out there.

I decided that I didn't really want to get the Sport model. It was just a combination of the additional money and whether or not I really wanted the features (more on that in the Driving Experience thread). I decided to stay with the base model and then went 'round and 'round on the color, with Orange no longer being an option. Long story short, I kept coming back to black. It's cool (in my opinion) and looks very sharp when clean. The drawback is, of course, that it shows dust immediately. When I took co-workers out to see the car today, after driving it for less than 1 day, the first thing they noticed was that it was "dirty" (dusty)!

I figure that while I'm all excited about the look of the car that I'll wash and wax it regularly. Just about the time I get tired of doing that, the novelty will have worn off and I won't care if it looks dusty. And, when I'm in the mood, I'll shine it up again and have it looking really good (for a day or so).

I'll post about my buying experience, driving experience, and after-purchase accessory questions in other threads. Thanks for your feedback, twin brother.

I'll keep an eye out for your when I'm in Corvallis (for football games or visiting family). If I see an Orange fit, I'll honk and wave like crazy. Maybe it'll be you.

I got to see the Fit in five different colors last night: orange, black (base), silver (base), red (Sport), and blue (Sport). I decided that this is a funky little car so it deserves a funky color. Also, as others have mentioned a bright color is an advantage for such a small car. The orange Sport, on the showfloor, looked great. It should sell particularly well in places like Austin, TX. I liked the blue, too--had kind of an "electric blue" quality to it. I don't like Milano Red as much as more of a cranberry red, but it looked sporty in red. I thought the black and silver cars looked like boring econocars. Maybe they would look a lot better in Sport trim, with the fancy wheels.

The other thing I noticed is that, except for the orange car, the paint did not seem to have the typical high-gloss Honda shine. Now, all these cars were fully detailed and clean, for a special open house at the dealership. So maybe they hadn't waxed the other cars yet.

I never did get to see the orange, light silver, or blue in person. I too found the dark silver one I saw to be "boring", but that could be because we are trading in a "boring" silver Ford Focus Wagon and I was just tired of it.

Also, I don't think it's a coincidence that you found the two base models to be the boring ones. All the red ones I saw were the sport trim, so they looked sporty. The only silver one I saw as base, so it looked more boring. The day I bought my black base, there was also a black sport in the showroom. Not surprisingly, the one with sport trim looked sportier! And both cars seemed very glossy. The black is like a mirror, even with a bit of dust on it.

So, I think part of it is color and part of it is trim. And by "trim" I mean the tires too. Don't underestimate the effect of wider tires. When we had our del Sol, I remember that the VTEC version looked much sportier, although the only external difference was the alloy wheels and the width of the tires.

The problem for me was that the only "bright" color I liked was Orange. I'm not a bright blue or bright red kind of person, if you know what I mean. The problems with the orange one was that there were absolutely none within hundreds of miles of me, that I wasn't sure that I REALLY liked the sport trim better than the base, and I wasn't sure I saw $1300+ of advantage to the sport model. Also, from pictures I've seen, the shade of orange was just a little different than what I wanted.

So, I ended up with a black base. It's hard to deny that it's pretty boring looking at this point. I really like the car -- since I'm the one driving it -- but I don't think it'll draw much attention. Then again, that's one reason I went with the black. If I want to be subtle, I can. If I want to add more "flare", I can do that too.

Saw the 'Vivid' or electric Blue today in person for an extended period of time. It was considerably better in-person than in the photos, mainly because it was a bit darker IRL than the photos made it seem.

Still a bit 'too much' for my tastes, but it 'Fits' the personality of the car, and while not ideal, is definitely liveable.

Was also told by a salesman that the 'Blaze Orange Metallic' is actually not very orange at all in-person, but rather is pretty much a copper color. If so, that might make me take a second look.

They call it "Blaze Orange Metallic" for a reason. It looks more orange than copper to me. But it's a good color for this car. On a bigger car, I don't know.

Mike,
I replied to your message elsewhere but didn't reaize you were in the greater PDX. I can attest that Circuit City Washington Square now knows how to install the alarm/keyless entry and took notes. BTW, same basic unit was $238 installed at the Good Guys and $300 + installation at Car Toys (+ an unknown kit price TBD during install).
Mine's a red base model out on the Beaverton/Hillsboro "frontier".

Over the past two weeks I've seen four Blaze Orange Fits in a variety of conditions -- one parked in the dealer showroom, one I test drove on an overcast day, one I saw being driven on the street on a sunny day, and one I saw on a dealer's lot just today, under skies that shifted between clouds and bright sunlight. In all these sightings, the car has looked more copper than orange to me (although it seems the more overcast it is, the more copper it looks). While most of the photos I've seen of it online also look copper to me, in a handful of them it looks like a really striking orange color that greatly appeals to me, but I'm frankly turned off by the coppery hue it looks like to me in real-world conditions.

YMMV, of course.

Thanks for the info! When I read that you had gotten a system at Circuit City, I thought, "Well at least ONE Circuit City knows how to intall it, but what about the ones around where I live?" As it turns out, the one IS around where I live (sort of).

I have several questions regarding the system you got. I'll ask them in the other thread since it's more about accessory stuff than this color thread.

Thanks,
Mike

"In all these sightings, the car has looked more copper than orange to me"

Probably a good thing, IMO.

Some will disagree, I'm sure, but when I think of colors that I'd NEVER paint a car, the list usually goes banana yellow, lime green, and then bright orange (aka 'cars that look like tropical drinks' ).

But copper is a different beast, and I could see how it'd be attractive.
