The Service agreement says under EXCLUSIONS AND RESTRICTIONS, "7. Coverage under this agreement will not apply to any repairs performed outside the United States of America or Canada."

You are supposed to contact your selling dealer for all repair work. If this is not possible you must contact the administrator PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH REPAIRS. Toyota 1-800-228-8559.

This is all per the Agreement language.

At Toyotafinancial.com it says,
Convenience
When your vehicle needs servicing, take it to any participating Toyota dealer throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Typical dealer crap, but sounds even worse in the Peoples Republic of Canada.

Try Corporate Toyota to straighten the dealer out!!!!!!!!!

Should we get the warranty? by smile1017

I just felt that noone really answered ggav73's question regarding whether we should get the warrant. I would appreciate it if someone would address this questions because I am switching from a 99 Camry to a 2007 TCH (on order) and would like to know whether an extended warranty would be a good investment. I know that on my 99 Camry it would have been a waste to purchase the warranty because I am just now starting to have problems with it - 90 mos and 116K miles later. Yes, the potential repairs would be pricey, but I would have gladly repaired it were it not for the new camry design that made me think of an update/upgrade.

I live in CA where the warranty on the HSD is supposedly 10 yrs 150K miles. If this understanding is incorrect please tell me what the correct warranty # are. My true concern in with the hybrid components and I think that the length of the warranty on that is sufficien to comfort me. Can anyone shed some light on this murky area.

Extended warranties are a personal risk insurance. The TCH should be a reliable Toyota but with any car things can go wrong. There is a lot of expensive things besides the hybrid system that can go wrong after the 36,000 warranty expires. Some win, some lose. How much exposure to risk do you want? If I drove 15,000 miles per year then a 5yr/75K warrant would be worth $800 to me to know I can drive for 5 years with no worry. However I drive 30,000 miles per year and I can't decide if paying $800 for basically 2 1/2 years warranty is worth it. I'm sure if the A/C or something else goes out I would wish I had it.

Like most insurance if every body NEEDED it then it would have to be a lot more expensive. Insurance just spreads the cost out to everyone so that the one who needs it does not bear all the cost.

In the meantime, although no clear answers from here, I got the warranty 7/75k. I drive between 10-15k/year. I also purchased the maintenance plan and I had a good feeling leaving after first oil change without paying anything. Of course, I payed already, I know. I obtained both from Mechanicsville Toyoya, VA, very nice people. I live in Illinois.

Just curious, did you ask the sales, finance, or service folks about the warranty issue?

If you didn't ask the Service Manager, why don't you stop in for an oil change, touchup paint, price some mud-guards or something. Then ask him about the US warranty.

You may get a different answer than the one from sales/finance.

I ended up buying the warranty from the Kansas folks. It is the real Toyota Platinum warranty. No muss, no fuss, no bother.

YMMV!

I think the extended warranties are optimally suited for someone that drives 15,000 miles or less and plan on keeping the car beyoud the normal warranty

Extended Warranty for Highlander Hybrid? by desertfox1

Can someone point me to some of these sites that give good prices for a warranty on the Highlander Hybrid Ltd AWD w/NAV?

What is you opinions of getting one, and what level, for this car? What about this maintenance plan I hear about?
I will be picking up my car later this week, so any input that I can check out ahead of time will be very appreciated.

FYI - I drive around 12-15,000 miles a year, although that may change in 3 years after retirement (higher) or if I get a second car(lower - convertible for summer).

Thanks in advance.

I have a TCH and I am thinking of getting an extended warrantee because I drive 30k miles a year, too, and so my standard warrantee will be gone in a little over a year. If I get a 6 yr 100k mile platinum, I will get about 2 extra years out of the warrantee. Seems like it might be worth the price just because of the cost of anything going wrong. Pretty much anything major is a grand. A transmission is many thousands... Having had 2 transmissions go bad in my first 2007 Camry (XLE) I have seriously thought about the extended warrantee.

I would never buy Toyota's. Too much dealer mark-up, no matter if they tell you they are selling it at their cost.

But I would buy a third part one that wrapped-around Toyota's longer powertrain warranty, for all the high tech and emissions stuff. You can get one like that and it will give you coverage out to 6 or 7 years, and 125,000 miles.

And contrary to what some people think, it is always cheaper to buy such a warranty in the first month than later, no matter that the original warranty has years to go.
